I think we all feel that way at some point. I'm a few days into mine and it sucks lol... but it'll be so worth it 😀

I started today, too! For me, it’s just trying to break the habit of actually eating. The hunger isn’t terrible yet, lol. But we got this! We’ll be on the other side soon enough. 😁 Feel free to talk if you need some moral support!!

Haha! YEESS! I’m off today (I work in a hospital), and I did what I usually do on my days off: wake up and decide what to eat. I was thinking of all these things until I realized that I was supposed to start the liquid diet today.🤦🏽‍♀️ The hunger isn’t terrible tho. I’m sipping liquids all day, so I’m not feeling it too much.

You'll make it through, we all have done some form of the same preps, our bodies didn't react all the same, BUT WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN WE WERE BEFORE and when the "dismal" come, we can power through. And I love reading others journaling as they too make it through!

YOU CAN DOOOO IT!!!! WE can do it!! I’m so sorry you’re having headaches. I suffer from Migraines myself, so I know how it is. I guess I have it a bit easier than most. I work nights (3 12hr shifts), so I spend a lot of the day asleep, and I’m not much of a night eater anyway. For me, my challenge is gonna be when I go to school (I’m a nursing student) and clinical on my off days. Everyone’s gonna be eating, and I’m just gonna be sitting there with my Jello and Protein Shake.< span class="ipsEmoji">😩

Yes, its so hard! I'm day three and my head ache almost fully went away. The diarrhea is still here though and everytime I drink a Protein Drink 5mins later I have to go. Its terrible because I can't use public restrooms I clam up in them so I usually hold it for home. Its so stupid I wish I wasn't like that and I could get over my fear of using public restrooms for number 2. I see my surgeon tomorrow and its a 2hr away drive so im not gonna drink any Protein until I get back home. lol.

What really sucks is knowing the liver shrinking diet usually consists of one meal a day or two meals of lean meats and veggies. I've seen a lot of people on here get at least one meal a day so I'm tempted to ask my surgeon if I can have the one meal. I don't get hungry all day until late dinner time around 7 or 8pm and that's when it the pain starts to become bothersome. But then part of me doesn't want to ask incase he chastises me about it and thinks I'm not ready for the surgery because of it. BLAH! Heres to 10more days! 😟

I asked my doctor about the one meal and he said for him its not about shrinking the liver its more about if I could actually do it because I want the surgery enough. Just like i thought! lol He's like i dont care if you do the diet or not... its up to you of course don't go crazy and the 2 days before its mandatory nothing but liquid! I told him I'm definitely ready for the surgery and I wouldn't be doing it if I wasn't. That I would do the one healthy meal a day like a salad. He said it was fine. WOO!!

This is the stage where you build the confidence to know that you CAN and WILL do this! You are getting set for a whole new life and you must be determined. Develop a mantra like, "I AM NEVER GOING BACK!" You are never going back to a life of obesity and all it's related quilt, shame, co-morbidities, discomfort and future incapacities. You are starting a whole new chapter and YOU CAN DO THIS! One day at a time. After surgery it will also be one day at a time. Pre-op is the time to clean up your eating, get rid of addictive things you can't have after surgery anyway, and get some pounds off. It is hard because you still have hunger hormones in play, and you don't have restriction yet...….. but YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! And after this pre-op stage, you can do anything!

I keep VISUALIZING success. I know me... if I sit around worrying about failing, chances are, I will.
You have to be the Little Engine - I **KNOW** I CAN! I **KNOW** I CAN! I **KNOW** I CAN!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
