After working with my bariatric team since February, I was scheduled and had my surgery on July 1st! I am almost a week in and am generally feeling pretty good. For me the hardest thing has been the liquid diet. I can't wait to be able to eat real food again. I'm currently counting down to July 18th, that's when I progress to Phase 3 of my diet and can have scrambled eggs! I can't wait! 😁

You are doing great! I start the pre-surgery meal plan this weekend. I'm trying to be patient as I got approved earlier than expected. My surgery date is July 30. Hang in there! You will be done with this about the time I start.

Good luck with your liquid diet. I start mine this weekend I have liquid meals for 2 and a "smart small meal" once. I'm working on my mind to get ready for it. My surgery is on the 30th. Good luck to you and keep us updated!

My surgery is already scheduled for July 31st. I received a letter from my insurance company, Anthem BCBS on Friday denying my request for my sleeve surgery. They claim I have not met all my requirements which I have. I've been under my surgeon's care since December. I have met all my surgeon's requirements. BCBS is saying I have not been on a supervised diet for 6 months. I plan to appeal their decision but this could not have happened at a worse time for me. I just found out I have 60 days to move!! Its been very stressful the last few days. I'm super bummed and feeling frustrated and overwhelmed by everything [emoji24]. I've worked so hard to come this far and to get all of this bad news at once. I'm praying everything works out as it should. I'm so depressed.

Yes, I agree! When I was in the hospital twice in May for asthma and high blood pressure I had to reschedule my monthly doctors visit. I went in the same month but not with within the week I was supposed to go. My surgeon called the reviewer and got it straightened out. That's awesome your surgery is the day b4 mine [emoji16]

I needed 2 medical issues for insurance, all I had was weight. Finally, I decided to do a sleep study because my husband said I was snoring again, was diagnosed with apnea I was so excited. Then I got the clearance that I wanted. I'm so excited. I had the Lap-band for 9 years it started failing about 2 years ago and I had it removed last year. My doctor said I'd have to self pay as I didn't have any medical issues other than my weight. I was so depressed until I decided to see if I could be diagnosed with apnea and I was, then 6 months later I'm on the road to good health again.

Me!! July 24th. I can’t believe I have a date. Just waiting for approval from insurance.

I hope your approval comes quickly. My doctor wouldn't give me a date until he had approval. Good luck and keep in touch!

Keep this in mind:
A delay in your plans is not a denial. It’s just a redirect. Things will work out when they’re supposed to. Keep at it with the insurance.
Xoxo

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
