I am 5 days post OP and starting to regret my decision to have VSG. Does anyone else feel like this? I thought I was prepared but mentally and physically it is really hard.

IT IS HARD, BUT DON'T LOSE PERSPECTIVE

the reasons why you went through all of the preop testing- that wasn't easy, the liquid diet- no cake walk there, the months of debating whether or not you should, who to tell, how long to take off work, how to prepare your family and friends in the worst case scenario, etc.- all very tough and you survived it all.

Don't give up now.

Dear Bookworm88,

It is so normal. You'll be feeling it throughout your first month or two. Stay focused on why you did it. My surgery was only 3 months ago, but I feel so good! I have energy, I walk with my dog everyday about 2 miles... I am planning on a snorkeling trip with my husband soon. I'm going to go to a family reunion soon and I can't wait to show off the new me! The new more active me. The more confident, healthier me!

Take your pain pills if it still hurts. Soon, you'll be able to eat regular food. The 2 week post op was the hardest for me, coz I was just ready to just eat already... But, you got this my friend, I promise.

Sip. Sip. Sip.

Walk. Walk. Walk.

Take your time, one day at a time.

You sooo got this!

ps.....Buckle up, it's gonna be a wild, bumpy and UBER fun ride!

I an so glad my nutritionist forewarned me about having regrets. I did go through this as well in the first couple weeks when it was the hardest. Do I regret it now 3 months out? NO!!

I would best you will feel better in the next month and see the benefits are so worth it!

I am 4 weeks out tomorrow and was finally able to sleep on my side last night. It’s been hard and the liquid diet afterwards was killer. But now that the weight is coming off I’m feeling excited. 5 days in is still really rough. Keep to the diet, the worst will be over before you know it. There is light at the end of the tunnel

Try to talk it out, why are you having regret. Get to the source to understand why you feel this way then I suggest having someone you can talk it out with. I was prepared to mentally really struggle with it but so far I havent had those feelings.

Why are you regretting it? Pain? Lack of food? You're only 5 days out, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Give it some time. It gets better. I don't have any regrets and I'm 5.5 months post-op.

Gets better or you develop a degree of resignation, " Is This All There Is?". Oh it isn't always BLEAK but often for me, STORMY! And I guess that's the way the mop flops!

From all I've read, the buyer's remorse phase is pretty common. We all experience it in one extent or another. Hang on... have faith that it's going to get better. We're playing the long game here. Lots of ((hugs)) to you!

I know everybody is telling you it will get better. I know sometimes it is hard to hear but it is 100% true. As the days go on it gets better and better, and before you know it you will be back to normal routines, still not eating alot, but back to normal routines and having fun. I had mine done in Nov.. both Thanksgiving and Christmas and my Birthday ( In Nov) were hard, but my family is very supportive and they made it fun, and un food related! You will have food police, and you just have to nip that in the bud really early on. You will slip but not fail as long as you stay focused on why you did this in the first place. With the goal ( reason) staying in sight, it will keep you on plan for the long run! Welcome to the Losers Bench and have fun with this.. It truly brings out your creative side in the kitchen :)

I am now 16 days post OP and feeling much better. My weight loss has not been as much as I hoped, but my surgeon says I am on track for a person of my height and starting weight. (7.8lbs down since surgery!) I deal with depression every day, so I am learning to not be as hard on myself. I feel limited by what I can eat, but am trying to replace food thoughts with planning new activities with friends and family to keep me busy.

Excellent and a shout-out from another bookworm In Ohio. Taught myself to read at 2 1/2, library card at 4, seldom without a book in hand and my tas5as eclectic, read almost every topic. Guess I prefer mysteries, often in foreign settings, but even read Cereal boxes if I'm bored. I am a 9 month old RNY, LOST 115 pounds since surgery, mine was not an easy average recovery but whatever, it's my journey and I accept iti!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
