Glad to see some new June people! Welcome!

Question - does anyone else have to give up coffee for a bit? On my plan I'm not allowed to have coffee for three months post-op. 😭😭 In addition to the caffeine my nutritionist said that it is also the acidity they are concerned with. I'm now drinking half-caff in the morning to prepare for no caffeine but this is going to be tough! I like the taste of coffee and it is my morning routine! Herbal teas, which she said were ok, are just not going to cut it! LOL

You know in the pre-op education last night, the nurse did say that we could have coffee during the pre-op because to quit caffeine cold turkey would bring an onslaught of headaches. But after surgery no caffeinated coffee, tea, etc. I was not a happy camper when I found this out. But I have done some research and found a pretty DAMN good Decaf coffee. Since I have a Keurig, Peet's Coffee makes a wicked house blend decaf. And trust me I know my coffee, you won't even know the difference. So if you still want your coffee, give it a try.Decaf House Blend K-Cup® Packs

Ugh is anyone else going off the rails a little?! I've been eating foods that are so shitty for me after doing amazing on my diet for the last 6 months. I'm supposed to start my 2 week liquid diet on June 5th BUT I'm going to do a 3 or 4 week liquid or low carb diet to get back on track. I plan on starting that this coming Sunday.

Bullet,

I really wanted McDonald's last night after leaving the pre-op education class😨 But I talked myself out of it. I start my pre-op diet on Memorial Day. And guess what????? I am having a cookout the Sunday before Memorial Day. I figured it will be like my "last supper"😰 And today, I was craving chocolate chip 🍪cookies and a glass of milk. So I ended up doing some yard work and then taking my 🐶 Riley for a couple of walks. And the walking took my mind off those delicious 🍪cookies. You gotta talk yourself out of those sudden cravings. If this surgery is going to have any long term success, I will have to be strong and you will and can too. Just my two cents of encouragement.........Cause We are going to need it. Good luck and YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

My doctor seems super liberal with coffee. I'm told sugar free syrups are okay, plain half & half is okay. I've seen comments about the caffeine being dehydrating so I'm slowly cutting back to Decaf. We'll see.

Yeah, it's been a bit tough... Some moments I'm knocking it out of the park, and others I'm diving for junk food. I'm honestly very much looking forward to the liquid diet, when my food choices will be narrowed down to flavors rather than anything more meaningful 😝

I've actually been enjoying using the sugar free syrups in my shakes - it varies up the flavors quite a bit, and they're really good!! I used to drink flavored coffee, but I think if/when I go back to drinking coffee, I'll be adding these syrups to standard coffee instead... 😊

Exactly. I have had amazing self control until the last 2 weeks or so. I'm excited to get this show on the road lol

Congrats sweetheart!!!! Soooo happy for you!!! I have gained like 5 lbs this month I think because I changed my reading habits when I found out i had diabetes and did so well they took but now that I'm off of them all ive been doing is eating. Starting my new diet goal tomorrow then doing a 4 week liquid diet to make sure I can do this

Yikes, 4 weeks?...i'm not so much worried about myself being able to do it but i'm terribly worried about my family and coworkers that will have to put up with me during the pre-op liquid diet lol.

Since my last appointment I've been at a standstill. I'm still exercising but I've been letting bread creep back in and also grabbing bites of my family's food (french fries) and had pizza. I'm trying to get out of my head the "well you won't be able to have this for a while and your pre-op nutrition appointment and last weigh in is June 7th so...no big deal". I'm annoying myself. LOL I've been so disciplined since January. I've got to get back to the mantra "progress not perfection", not beat myself up over it and get back to my low carb/high Protein diet. My surgery is the 17th and I have one more weekend of events to get through ... my son graduates high school on the 7th of June and we'll have one dinner out afterwards and a party that weekend for him. But that should be it!

I really want it sooner. I dont be in recovery my bday is in july

I'm scheduled for either June 26 or July 3 (depending on insurance approval). My birthday is July 29, so I'll still be getting myself together on my birthday. I'll definitely be in recovery on the 4th of July!

My husband and family have already been warned and I have a natural attitude already lmao. I really feel for them.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
