Pre Op diet-no protein shakes

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am having a sleeve surgery on 3/27 so just a few days away! The program that I am in is with one of the best hospitals in the nation and I completely trust them. However, they do things pretty differently than what most other programs do. The biggest difference is that I am in my 10 diet pre-op liquid diet and their program does not allow Protein Shakes. They want you to get Protein naturally through things like milk and by blending food. They gave a list of foods that you can eat pre-op which includes smoothies blended with red fruit and greek yogurt. The impression I get from other programs is they are super low carb because this shrinks the liver. Well, given that my diet lets you have blended fruit and such, that doesn't seem low carb and so I am really confused on the purpose of the diet! I waited too long to ask my dietician because they won't get back to my until Monday at least and my surgery is on Wed. so not much point at that time but I am wondering if anybody has any ideas on what the purpose of this 1 day diet is if its not shrinking my liver!?

They may not be so concerned about liver size as much plans do. The old saying is Different Strokes for Different Folks and nowhere is it more apparent than in Bariatric Medicine. A portion is what the professors taught them, what has worked well in the past, a portion is their personal outlook, but every Man Jack surgeon wants you as healthy as possible before surgery, many paths to get there and believe what they have told you is what will fit your case best. Smile, keep peace in your heart and joy in your spirit, things are going to go fine for yiy!👍😝👍

My surgeon did not require any kind of pre op diet. Only 24 hours before my surgery I was to be on Clear Liquids. When I asked him why they didn't require it he literally said "because we aren't mean." Lol!!!! He said that sometimes if a patient was over 400lbs and was concerned about the liver being to large, then he would do it. I did eat very healthy the week leading up to the surgery however.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
