Isn’t it really annoying when you’re at a gathering and someone says “Shouldn’t you not be eating that?” And then everyone starts talking about it and make stupid comments like “Well don’t be complaining in acouple of Years” or “what was the point of you even getting it” .... all this only because i was eating banana because my doctor has it in my meal plan that i can eat it .. everyone was saying that bananas have sugar.. but if my doctor told me I could then I can !!! It just gets me super annoyed and makes me want to go off !! But I don’t even waist my time explaining because I know what I should and should not be eating

Absolutely. It's also annoying on WLS boards as well. 😂

One of the reasons why I haven't told anyone except my husband and mom. You know your body and your surgeon's plan, you have consulted with a nutritionist. Everyone is different. You know your trigger foods and what stalls your loss.

Exactly, you’re definitely right!! That’s exactly what I’m going to say next time.. this is the only reason I regret being sooooo open with many people about the surgery

Ugg yes, it’s annoying when people are the diet police.

Everyone seems to have strong opinions on what a healthy diet is. Many think their way is the only way. It’s like getting in a debate about politics or religion. I understand when people are new and in the honeymoon phase. Many are just finding out that we have different instructions and phases.

That's exactly what I was afraid of and worried that I would feel too vulnerable and not confident enough to fend them off. So I only told a few close relatives (like my husband and kids) . about my surgery. No one at my work knows. Many of my "not so close" relatives have struggled with their own weight loss and regain, and I don't want to be under their scrutiny and judgement of my decision for surgery. I don't know if I will ever tell them. They will notice the weight loss for sure, but I don't have a problem telling them that I am eating a lot less, exercising a lot more, and using all the tools I know to achieve success.

My heart goes out to you, because it must be really hard being under the microscope of the "diet police." I hope you come up with some really good one-liners! "Have you ever seen a fat monkey?" (In regard to the banana.) Please share what you come up with.

I think it’s good that you decided to only tell your close people .. and thank you! It’s definitely can be hard, but I already have some good one-liners, let’s just hope I don’t have to use them lol

I choose to look at it a different way. I look at it like I have accountability partners to help me keep from rationalizing poor behaviors and dubious choices. It helps me stay firm and convicted. If I know all eyes (pretend--cuz most people aren't watching) are on me, then I'm not gonna allow the laxness of the moment to take control and allow me to slide. Or to slide "too much."

And as for banana, sure your doc says you can eat it. And in limited amounts it's not too high in sugars for a lot of people. But we are each individual, and I'm extremely carb sensitive. So if it doesn't give me reactive hypoglycemia, or high blood sugars, it will absolutely make me hungry within an hour or two. So bananas are on my "no fly" list. I do use banana flavored Protein Powder though. :)

Well that’s good that you choose to look at it a different way. Everyone is different so everyone takes it differently.. I get there are people that try and help but there are also those people that are doing it and saying it in a negative way .. with or without people telling me things I always measure my food so I know I’m not having “too much” or to slide .. banana the most I’ll have is 2 tablespoons and I’m perfectly fine with it ..

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
