Protein goals and Fruit

Recommended Posts

HI- I had surgery a few months ago and recently joined a boot-camp exercise class. The instructor gave the class a goal of trying to eat your weight in Protein grams per day. So, currently I am around 200, which would mean I would need to aim for 200 grams of protein a day. It seems extreme. The other nutrition question I have surrounds fruit. I try to eat an apple a couple of times a week, but they are high in carbs. Is this OK or should I try a different fruit?

Be careful taking nutritional advice from someone without bariatric expertise. Our needs are different and since our volume is so restricted, you have to do a balancing act.

I eat fruit most days. Sometimes it’s a small amount of peaches with my morning oats. Or some berries with yogurt or 1/2 cup of mango . It’s yummy, healthy and also helps to satisfy sweet cravings

Im like 5.5 weeks out from vsg and literally just yesterday spoke with my nutritionist about this same issue. In my case, she instructed me to add more carbs (i am having almost no carbs) through some fruit (about 1/3 - 1/2 cup) per day. Im still only getting about 80g of Protein per day so I can’t even imagine 236 grams (my cw).

200g of Protein is a lot. I'm currently taking in about 160g per day, and I'm 6'3" and around 225lbs. I've been able to build muscle well at abou 0.7g per lb of body weight.

I drink 16oz of Fairlife milk (look it up) in the morning with Breakfast. That's 26g

I drink a Premier Protein shake in the afternoon. That's 30g

I drink another 16oz of Fairlife in the evening, post-workout, before bed. That's another 26g.

So, all in, I drink 82g per day I addition to my food intake.

Hi Tom,
So you're a few months out and still in weight loss mode. I would follow your bariatric dietitians advice and hold off on following a trainer's advice. Log your food in a food app. Track your carb intake. If you're adding fruit as a part of your carbs make sure they stay within your weight loss carb ratio

You are a bad ass doing boot camp. Keep your dietician updated on your fitness program and calories burned. See what they suggest.

Your stats say you have 55 to lose. (Not sure if that’s correct) If you choose to take your trainers advice and up your calories, Protein, and carbs. keep and eye on the scale to see if it slows/stops your weight loss.

Your diet may change and evolve as your fitness level increases. You will be looking at your calories burned, metabolic rate and fitness goals. @BlueCrush is a great mentor.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
