What is the best tasting protein shakes?

Recommended Posts

So i see Premier Protein is super popular, but are they the best tasting? I’ve had a chocolate one that I wasn’t a fan of and I’ve also had the GNC brand (lean something) and I don’t remember it tasting too horrible.... what are some suggestions. I’m waiting for insurance to approve and get a date so once that happens I wana be prepared and start shopping for my preop diet....

I like to have a variety on hand. I drink Premier chocolate, but its not my favorite. I also use the Unjury chocolate powder with milk (only available on their website and in some hospital pharmacies). Sometimes I like something other than chocolate (since I'm not a huge fan of chocolate anyway), and I find the Syntrax Nectar ones to be good. I bought a sample pack and tried all of them. My faves are the lemonade, fuzzy navel, and the oreo one (that's not what its called). I typically drink the lemonade or fuzzy navel as my afternoon snack because they seem more like a drink and less like a food replacement shake. I find that they need a few ice cubes. Pre-op, I used to add a lot of ice and blend them into a nice big slushie-type drink.

It may be good to get some sample sizes of a bunch of different ones to try. My Vitamin Shoppe had a pretty good selection of single serve powders from a fair number of brands. That way, I didn't waste a lot of money buying big tubs of stuff I don't want.

I’ve tried a bunch. Premier Protein is good but I really like Unjury chocolate splendor and their vanilla. You’re right to find ones you like beforehand. They gave me the ensure Protein in the hospital. They were ok but your tastebuds will be off a bit and sweet things may taste SUPER sweet to you. That’ll pass after a few weeks. Good luck!

I have to use Premier pre-op, but I have heard the Atkins high Protein Shakes have some really yummy flavors - looking forward to trying them!

My surgeon doesn't allow his patients to use Premier since it's a concentrate Protein, but before I knew this I tried almost all of their flavors and wasn't a fan of any of them—I don't like the aftertaste. I really like Bariatric Eating's Inspire—it's whey protein isolate, they have a lot of flavors, and it doesn't have a powdery texture/aftertaste.

Carnation's Breakfast Essentials has a LIGHT START variety that was approved by my team. I add Fairlife milk to it. All in all it's about 18g of Protein, but it has a wonderful thin consistency and tastes like a yoohoo.

They are all vile, LOL. I kept buying new ones in a desperate attempt to find a good one, but after surgery I can’t shake the artificial sweetener taste. Premier with coffee or thinned with Fairlife is tolerable, as are the Atkins. Sometimes I make one with Greek yogurt, fruit and Fairlife, but that has higher calories and less Protein per ounce, so most days I just choke down the chemical shakes, I only have to have one a day now.

Throwing some premier into coffee is definitely the best

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
