Hello!

Im not sure if anyone has started a topic on this yet, and I’m new here, but I was wondering what everyone’s views on the Medical Alert ID was? Some say we should absolutely have it, others say no.

What do you all think?

I’m thinking I may get one and wear it when I go walking and travel.

What’s the reasoning for having it?

Just if something was to happen to me they would know as we can’t have certain medications and stuff

Considering one for me, 1 post-rny, some surgeons say yes because we have a non- continous stomach and digestive track, others say 1st responders seldom start stomach/n.g. tubing
so really a "moot point"? 2. Should I name my PICC line or are we "dating" for a short short time? They sent me home, did the medical equivalent of gently swating my rump and telling me to " Go and Sin No More", well masked people I hadn't been THAT SINFUL until now! Okay my pouch is Precious Pouch, I'm open. to suggestions for the PICC , leaning toward Catherine for "catheter", I think Orchids and Dragons reminded me Catherine of Siena had a torture wheel motive? I've been speaking to St Luke, the Great Physician , do hope he is not emulating his earthly counterparts, either gone to voice mail or hired a messaging service and I never get "patched through". Don't mean to sound flippant but I'm sitting here in mild misery. Should get dressed , go to my nearby house of worship, hmmm what outfit I can still wear that goes with a black backpack 18-20 inches long,7.5 inches wide and makes gentle whirring sounds along with beeping when it feels threatened. And NoBODY has given me a time. table that we are a couple? End of 2018? January, February? Spring-time 2019?
Anyway I think 1st responders might want to about THIS? Spend money on a Bracelet and then it's removed? Maybe I'll have Catherine PICC catheter the rest,of my misbegotten life?
And I forecast a hard candy Christmas, pretty bleak, pretty sad. While I was a guest of OSU's Bari- Surgical floor, also known as Doan 10, Wal-Mart sold out every one of the Christmas trees Tomkitten and I had our eye on, would Wal-Mart.com still have them or are they gone Forever and Forever? Been trying to sell my kerosun Heater, worth $150 new, gently used, this house has more reliable heat, offered $50, no takers, $40 no takers, $ 30 one guy came out, I needed new C batteries for the ignition, but it was nice looking, not dirty although it had been moved to my backyard shed. Brought into my kitchen. so he could see it. He's "Thinking" about it, been studying on it close to 2 weeks, maybe he's a Slow Thinker?
That $30 might have bought Tomkitten and I each a FurTrimming for Christmas, now we go around semi-shaggy, his hair curls at the nape of his neck, I threaten to kiss them like I used to when he was a baby Tomkitten.Ooh he doesn't care much for the prospect.
And the people of my community are Cheap, Cheap Cheap, sure I could set it out by the curb, it would disappear but give me money? Can't be bothered!

the reason for having it is.. if something happens they medical teams cannot give you NSAIDS nor instert a tube into your stomach blindly so they don't puncture it. They have to see your stomach on a screen now that it is smaller.

I was given a little plastic card that I keep in my wallet that says that I had bariatric surgery and they should call my surgeon's office before performing certain procedures.

Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Sounding well worth it, I surely also need a card because of my PICC line, on TPN for only GOD knows for sure how long! Maybe I'll have more of an idea on the 18th when I see Dr Needleman or on the 28th when I should have my next endoscopy with Dr Noria?

This has crossed my mind, but I hadn't put much thought into it. I might ask my surgeon when I see him in a couple of weeks.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
