Mirrors vs Photos

Recommended Posts

For the *losers* out there I'm curious whether you see yourself looking the same or different in the mirror compared to in photos, with both being at your current weight. I'll post my response as a comment so as to not influence your thoughts.

Worse in the mirror, lighting is usually off and I think I look more or pasty than I usually am. Keep in mind it is the edge of Winter in Ohio and I have lost most of not all of my summer tan. All that remains are freckles and age spots. And if I went back to wearing makeup I have to get a lighter shade, what I have now 2 shades too tanned and dark.😴🙈🙉🙊👌

I've lost 37 lbs since my Aug 15 surgery (total 52 lbs since pre surgery diet). I've been feeling pretty good with the weight loss so far. It's noticeable to me in my clothes and how I can now cross my legs with both legs hanging vertically like they're supposed to. I've actually looked at myself in the mirror more than I have in years. It's cool being able to see my collarbone and shoulders and my slimmer face and neck. This past weekend we took family photos for Christmas and when I looked through them I was a bit disappointed. My weight loss doesn't seem to be as noticeable in the pictures as it is IRL. Curious if anyone else has noticed that.

Both mirrors and camera lenses can distort an image in different ways. You also may look different in different mirrors or photos taken by different cameras.

And what the eye sees may vary wildly from person to person as well.

I would suggest picking a mirror or camera that gives you the image you like to the most (my mirror is from Walmart and it makes me look taller) and use it to record your progress.

Congrats on your success!

@rs

boy are you nosey🤣 kidding bud!!

i see you've had a bunch of NSV's - seeing collarbone, crossing legs etc, clothes

those are wonderful feelings! hold on to them!!☺️

looking at you in a pic/mirror - doesn't always tell the whole story.

when i see a pic of myself - urgggggh

when i look in the mirror - i am happy with what i see!!

guess i'll just stick to the mirror LOL

regardless, i always look cute as a button LOL (bet you do too!!)

good luck

kathy

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
