30 BMI sleever / hiatal hernia repair 2 stitches

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved and had my hernia repair on sept 19.

So im about 7 weeks out. Started at 180lbs. Now at 139.

I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration. After an X-ray with barium showed my swallowing is normal. I was sent home.

My surgeon is in Vegas. And I live in Reno.

i feel like I can’t swallow. It is so painful. Even just Water. I’m so thirsty. But simply can not get it down.

When I do, I lay in pain for about an hour. As happy as I am with the results, I can’t live like this. Why does it hurt so bad? I did liquid diet. Tried to move to soft foods. And everything just hurts.

I use gas x. Heartburn meds on occasion. Just to see if anything will help this feeling.

Is anyone else struggling like me? What did you do? How long did it take for you?

Have you called your doctor's office to explain that to them? I wouldn't wait. Dehydration is nothing to mess around with. Best of luck to you.

Vegas? Was it Blossom? They're good, but they're a high volume bariatric farm; the "love 'em and leave 'em" school. If you want them to take responsibility and help, you're gonna have to get pushy\aggressive. i.e. Threaten to blast their name all over the bariatric forums and Yelp. maybe even get a lawyer involved.

Unless you make noise, they will not help you, which is BS. Whatever is going on with you, it;'s not normal. They need to step-up and help you through it.

It was blossom yes.

So update on this whole problem.

turned out being a spasm in my esophagus. After three different trips to the er. Two to three day stays every time, just to replenish my fluids.

I smoked some some old pot I had laying around. “Let’s keep in mind I hate being stoned. But I also hate not being able to eat or drink.”

i drank. Still a little pain. But that made the light go off that hey, lets go to the store, pick up some Vape pens of weed. “I live where it is legal”

I was able to drink freely. I ate a whole bag of mini Funions! I was a wreck after smoking. But I’ll take that any day over the reglan and blood pressure meds.

I felt like a test subject that was on all sorts of trial meds that would hurt me more than help.

I woke up up and ate a little bit of this philly cheese steak I froze. I can’t tell you how incredibly freeing this is. I am sipping on a mango shake I write this, with a huge smile.

I'll definitely have my proper medicine on hand after my surgery. It's legal where I am as well. I have the pleasure of growing my own meds and I grow organic. They can keep the painkillers because once I leave the hospital I wont need them. I myself love being stoned but I hardly ever get that high these days. To many responsibilities. No one would have an idea that I'm high unless I told them. My doctor knows I vape. He knows I will continue to do so. No reason to lie to your doctor. They work for you :P

I would definitely choose good ol' weed over the percoset or opioid for pain control any day. I would just be concerned about the pain that would occur should I have a coughing fit (which I can get from vaping too) and, of course, munchies. I don't know how weed effects you post surgery, but if I am high, I can eat and not feel any fullness ever. That could be a dangerous situation for a sleever--especially a new sleever.

No all strains of cannabis cause the munchies. But I can see where that would be an issue for some. I myself have been working hard as hell post op. I want to be as small as possible with a great exercise routine before my surgery in January. So far so good! No issues in regards to muchies for many reasons. I know I don't allow myself food after a certain time point blank. 2 I don't keep unhealthy munchie food where I have access too it. You just have to work on personal willpower (not you personally ^.^ ) I'm still working on mine!

Okay so i havent had my sleeve yet, but about 2 months ago i had a huge bout with acid reflux and found out i have a huge hietal hernia and 2 rakes in my throat. I was prescribed a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) Since then I have been amazing and this is coming from severe acid reflux for the last 3 years. Also just avoid certain foods and a pillow to help prop you up at night, for the sore throat and swallowing issues you can also ask about Sulfacrate/Carafate it coats your throat and makes it easier to eat and drink. Best of luck :)

I am. Had my surgery in 2013. Lost the weight. They fixed a hinatled hernia. Came right back. My surgeon was like after surgery he can't be bothered with you. Had to threaten him and the hospital to to the second hernia repair. Now it's back again. In fact about a week after the repair. It's back. The tissue is weak. So it won't hold. And not doing mesh. GERD is off the charts. Now they are talking another edg. With biopsys for Barretts Esophagus. And they are also talking to going from sleeve to ruin y.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
