HannahRB reacted to TomCruzMomShoes in Feeling Frail and HungryMy surgeon has his patients do a 14 day post op clear liquid diet (do not miss it at all). SF Popsicles, jello, tea, and protein water (I did Isopure, get it on Amazon) is pretty much what I lived on. As far as broth, I did something "weird" that worked for me - I bought really inexpensive chicken/meat pieces, seasoned them and cooked them in a broth with onion, garlic etc. like a soup then strained the broth out and threw out the solids. Tasted WAAAY better than store bought broth. It can get expensive and wasteful, which is why I would bought the cheapest chicken pieces I could find (a small amount will do), but it added "something" to the plain broth that made it more palatable, maybe some fat content or something, not sure. You can do a pretty large batch at one time.
All of this aside, you will be weak no matter what, and likely will be for a few weeks. It will pass, the first few weeks are the worst. I am only 6 weeks out and around 3 weeks I got a HUGE boost of energy, so just fight through it for now. If you feel horrible at any point, make sure you speak to your surgeon, and always follow his plan, no matter how much you wanna do your own thing! Good luck!

HannahRB got a reaction from Liz The New Me in Feeling Frail and HungrySee i just cant take anymore cold stuff, I've just avoided popsicles lol. Ive eaten room temp jello to avoid the cold. I think im going to try strained cream of mushroom (which is a recommendation in my nutrition book)

HannahRB reacted to FancyChristine15 in Bending OverMy grandmother passed away shortly after my surgery; she was a bit of a hoarder, not as bad as the people on the show Hoarders, but still, anyways, the family got together and helped clean out her house, and I definitely over did it. I called the dr's office to let them know that I was in pain, and they advised that I take tylenol and place an ice pack over the area of my stomach that was hurting; that helped so much. Best of luck to you.

HannahRB reacted to Swanton_Bomb in Feeling Frail and Hungry7 days of post op clears is pretty strict. Packaged broth is pretty awful to me now, but the broth from wonton soup went down pretty easily, maybe try that?

HannahRB got a reaction from quana711 in Feeling Frail and HungrySo my specific doctor/nutritionist has told me to be on clear liquid diet (no protein powders) for a whole 7 days after my surgery. Im on day 5 and slowly the hunger is eating at me. My diet is pretty much a f*ck ton of sugar free crystal light, jello, and the occasional strained chicken and noodle soup. (and water) tonight its finally getting to me. Ive experienced mild dumping after the strained chicken and noodle soup, but honestly im willing to risk the dumping for at least a sip of my favorite Atkins protein drink. Any tips? (btw i cannot stomach broth it makes me wanna vomit)

HannahRB reacted to kjuno in December 2018 Sleevers!Be careful Hannah protein helps your body heal. I think it’s the only think consistent across the board. -
HannahRB reacted to SteveT74 in December 2018 Sleevers!Yes . ... That is the one constant that every surgeon requires.

HannahRB reacted to SteveT74 in December 2018 Sleevers!Sent the last I reply too. You need the protein to heal but also because during the rapid weight loss phase you will lose muscle mass if you don't have enough protein. The concern isn't about skeletal muscle, but critical smooth muscle tissue like your heart! A couple of days not meeting your protein goals won't hurt you, but if you are not eating any calories from protein you are going to end up back in the hospital with serious complications.

HannahRB got a reaction from Frustr8 in Period After Gastric SleeveI had something similar-ish happen. I just got my surgery done on Saturday the 15th. I have been on birth control for 5 years. and was only two weeks out from my last period and right after the surgery i started my period, so there definitely is a correlation somewhere in there.

HannahRB reacted to Bougieb in Lowkey Freaking OutDefinitely call and tell them, your anesthesiologists has to know that before hand -
HannahRB reacted to FancyChristine15 in Lowkey Freaking OutMaybe you should call them and just fess up. I wouldn't want to spend all that money on flights for them to not be able to do it.

HannahRB reacted to Lady-Lazarus in The experiences of a young sleeverGood luck with your liquid diet! For me I found it (the pre/ VLCD and post op liquid diets) to be the hardest part, because I didn’t lose my appetite after surgery, But it really does go by before you know it.
I’m not on any meds for my anxiety/depression - the treatment I undergo for anxiety has been cognitive behavioural therapy, so I didn’t have any clashes or issues with meds there.
To be completely honest my mental state in the lead up to surgery and during the recovery process was pretty bad, I didn’t cope particularly well. I had some issues going on in my personal life in the few weeks before my surgery, which stressed me out, plus the stress of the upcoming surgery itself, and the struggle with the diet. The amount of pain and constant discomfort I was in during the recovery one hundred percent gave me buyer’s remorse for ever getting the surgery in the first place. I was a wreck, I was sick of being in pain, I was sick of being hungry but not really being able to eat, the issues in my personal life were ongoing. My depression and anxiety had gotten absolutely worse and I found myself crying most days for the month after surgery wishing I’d never gotten the sleeve.
I’m about four months post op now, and those feelings have gone away. It took a lot of time, but seeing all the progress I’d made, the confidence I’ve gained, and the fact I can eat normal food with practically no problems (now anyway haha) has helped. I don’t regret getting my sleeve anymore and my life is going great!
All the best for your journey ahead!
