I am an account manager, total desk job. I was curious how long others were off work due to their surgery.

I’m a finance director. I had surgery on 10/10/18 and I go back to work this Thursday. That will be 4 weeks off. I could have gone back sooner but my surgeon recommended 4 weeks and my employer is paying me so I followed my doctor’s advice. I am looking forward to going back to work but I’m worried about being tired!

My RNY is scheduled Tuesday 11/13 and I plan on being out that week and then the week of thanksgiving if needed. I’m a sales manager and can work from my phone and laptop for 75% of my job.

I have a desk job as well. I had my surgery on a Thursday (sleeve) and returned the next Wednesday. I work 10 hour shifts and only "problem" I had was sitting down for long periods of time, so I took frequent breaks walking around for 5-7 minutes and everything would feel better. Hope that helps !

First time around i took 1 week off (i was totally fine by day 5)
Second time around i took a week off and i was actually fine by day 2, no pain what so ever- just tired the first two days.

Now everyone is different. It depends on so many things like pain tolerance, how you react to anesthesia, age, kind of work you do, whether you had past surgeries.

I’m young, never had anything done before or any additional heath issues, no scar tissue and i have a gov job so for me it was easier than others experiences.

I had mine on a Thursday we by back working from home the following Thursday and Friday. I’m so glad I had those two extra work from home days. I probably should have taken more time as I was just exhausted. No pain just exhaustion.

I’m a teacher; I had my surgery and went back in two weeks. After about one month I had to take FMLA for about 3 weeks due to exhaustion ☹️. Everyone and every job is different ~ just listen to your body.

I work in a call center so we have to maintain stats. I knew I would not be able to maintain them on the liquid diet so I took a week and a half before my surgery and then four and a half weeks half weeks after for a total of 6 weeks and I started back to work on a Wednesday so I only worked a half of a week and then I had a weekend off and now I am on my first full week back at work.

I’m an RN working from home on my computer. Took two weeks off post op. The exhaustion post op was the hardest part for me even after the two weeks. Still need a nap once a day and I was sleeved July 10th.

Everyone is so different for sure! I'm planning on 3 weeks and if feeling well enough by the 3rd week, will look at a few hours a day..month end of course! Also in accounting so desk job but concentration will be my concern.

Everyone seems to point at exhaustion..and agreed there as the calories will be so low for the first while let alone getting enough Protein in to stay upright! lol!

But heal..that is the most important I think.

Joining you November sleeved sleevers soon!

Go team!

I have a desk job as well but due to how big the building is and the proximity to my desk and the restroom I had to factor all that in. My fmla approved me for 4 weeks and I’m very grateful for it.

I work from home, when I'm not traveling. Desk job of emails, spreadsheets and conference calls while at home.

I technically took no time off. I worked the morning before surgery and the next day both at the hospital and once I got home. I didn't travel for 2 weeks, and then at 3 weeks post op started work travel and have traveled nearly weekly since.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
