November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone!! Congrats to all going this week, I feel like today is a big day for a lot of you! I am just shy of 3 weeks and I think I am having my first stall, so it makes sense if I am paying attention to everything I am doing, my calories have started to increase because actual pureed food over liquid, even though it is not a lot it is enough, so I spoke with my nutrionist the other week and felt like a failure she was saying I should be able to hold a lot more in and that I hadn't been eating enough, I also spoke to her about the issues surrounding the bathroom, to which she lowered my Calcium dose to only 500 mg and I did not have to start my Iron, biggest thing was she told me only one Protein Drink a day,but seriously the struggle is real in this area. In any case I am still walking more and more each day, and trying to get all my Protein in a day, I think I have been pretty good, over all getting in one shake and about 6 ounces of puree in a day, and not having any problems with liquids so that is good. People around me have started to notice the loss, I am not there yet but I am feeling better leg pain and the scale is telling me that I have lost about 44lbs from my highest weight so no complaining here! Keep moving forward everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Thank you. I am also glad your doing well I am not going in until tomorrow morning.

Hi all!

I had surgery last wed 11/21 feeling pretty good and fluids are going well!

Last night i had a crampy tummy though for the first time since surgery. It kept waking me up :(

anyone else had this?

Overall feeling pretty good though still a little sore when bending and reaching but minimal pain overall!

Hope everyone is doing well ❤️

Yes, but I am having a lot of Constipation issues so I think that is why, also the swelling and healing process, but if really get concerned call and check in with your doctor.

oh bummer i know that can be a real issue. Yeah i think i may have been a little dehydrated trying to catch up on fluids. But i am happy to report i had a couple bm today after not having one for a while.

Yesterday was the first day i met my Fluid goal so i am sure i just needed to use the bathroom.

hopefully tonight is better

Hi Sleevers I had bad news this morning. My surgery has been moved to Dec. 12 . It was supposed to be November 28 . My surgeon had death in his family and couldn’t do it until. Next month. He has to go out of the country. I just want to get this done. 😢

UGH!!! I am so sorry. I am sure it feels horrible today it takes a lot of work to get to the point of being ready, I get it life happens as well. Try to take it in stride and the 12th will be here before you know it.

I felt that way as well. It took until I was at the hospital for me to calm down and the team really helped with that. good luck and keep us posted!

I'll be 3 weeks out tomorrow. My surgeon wants me to eat at least 6 times a day. I am not quite there yet, it's usually more like 3 or 4. But I am able to eat between 3-4oz at a time and have been focusing on Protein. I feel really fortunate that I don't have any issues with keeping things down or discomfort eating or drinking. Like Paddyski, I think I am at my first stall BUT I know it's temporary and I'll just keep pushing on! Good luck to everyone who is approaching their date. This is the best decision I ever made!

I was doing well until i looked over and my husband was teary eyed. bless his heart. I was terrified! This was my first surgery but you will do great!

Now i feel surgery is the "easy" part. you just wake up and its done! Recovery takes work :)

not that any of this is easy! but your team will take good care of you!

i am feeling pretty good! I unfortunately struggle from a lot of anxiety that revolves around health. So i have been anxious about a few things that i thought could go wrong. But i am doing well all things considered. i am sure in about a month when i am in the grind i will be doing much better anxiety wise!

working on getting those fluids in and walking lots! I got very close to hitting my 64oz yesterday!

incision pain is minimal only notice it when i bend/twist!

overall good still feeling a little run down and tired but with the lack of calories and Protein that is to be expected!

Im excited for you! you will have to let me know how everything goes!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
