Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability

  • Popular Post

Hey y'all! Anyone and everyone is welcome to jump in and join us.

This is the Intermittent Fasting DAily Menu/Results/Accountability Thread. It's where a few of us (or many) are going to log in and encourage each other while we experiment with our own IF plans. You can list or talk about anything--not just your food. I look forward to adding in HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and core exercises to my walking plan while practicing IF. So expect to hear about that too. ;) hehe I expect some of us will talk about the known IF side-effects like insomnia, circadian rhythm disturbance, etc. It's all good! Let's hack this IF mofo! mkay? :D

There is not any 1 specific IF plan--there are so many to choose from, so this is a BYOIFP (bring-your-own-IF-plan) and join the fun! This is the thread where we'll post our daily menus and maybe some piccys at times! We can discuss progress, issues we might notice, look at how we may want to refine our own personal plans. I do think you should be healed from surgery and have your doctor's and RD's blessings to try something like this and you should do a ton of research and reading about Intermittent Fasting.

IF isn't only about weight loss, it's about taking specific measures to limit either quantities, calories, macros, or sometimes only consciously altering eating windows/schedules in order to effect metabolic change and reduce inflammation and improve health markers.

Ok, let's do this thang!!!

@GreenTealael - you just heal, heal, heal right now!!! There will be time for IF when you're ready to do it again! Congrats on aging backwards. :D You do look INCREDIBLY young to be xyz! :D Is that a thing? Can you be "too young looking

Usually when people realize I have teenagers, they're like huh?!?

Okay so quick IF question.
I typically have 1 ounce plain milk in my morning coffee. No sweetener. Just milk and coffee.

Does the milk count as me breaking my fast, or can I still consider myself in a fasting state?

Depends how purist you are. :) And why you're fasting. :) If it's for autophagy, then the answer is no one really knows yet, but I would think it would cuz of the precise amino acids in milk. Takes very little to leucine and isoleucine to stop autophagy. If it's for calorie restriction, time restriction, and weight loss, then I'd say no. I also think autophagy is "fluid" so we go in and out of it during the day-my opinion only.

So if that's what it takes to make you happy, I'd say do it. Also though I would tend to add either FairLife Milk or Premier Protein to up the protein content while keeping your cals low if that's what you're doing. Otherwise heavy cream would be the choice if fat or cals were not an issue.

I have much to learn. I’m glad all of you have the knowledge to help me along the way, Today is day one 16/8 and alternating days.Fasting break is at 11:00. So far so good.

Still looking at how to change my diet.

Yay! Love it and welcome!!! All the IF vets are here to help you and I can help you lollygag and screw around. :D

Well Well Well...

I just realized Its been a proper year since I started IF. Happy to have shared this journey with everyone ?

I love the flexibility of being able to go on/off the IF lifestyle as needed. I find it easy to slip right back into it so that's a win. I totally will be doing this for life ?

Thanks! I don’t feel like I’m to the point where I can go totally purist as I’m just as of tomorrow 6 months PO.
I do use fairlife milk only because of the increased protein content.
Sadly any kind of protein shake like premier makes me sick to my stomach. Pretty sure it’s the artificial sweetener, as I’ve always had nausea/headaches with them. I’ve never in my life been able to tolerate anything except very tiny bits of stevia as a sugar substitute.

When I start to actually IF “properly” I’ll be more of a purist, but I love learning bits and pieces along the way before I actually arrive there.

My goal for this month is to drop 2 pounds weekly. I feel as if I do best on a daily 16:8 or 18:6.
As long as my milk in my morning coffee doesn’t count as breaking my fast, this is what I plan on doing every day this month.
As of right now if I try to go farther than 18:6 I can’t get my protein in daily but it’s okay.... I don’t need to be any more aggressive atm.

@GreenTealael has been doing the PP in her coffee the whole time and has had no probs! She's super successful! So I see no reason for you to change it up. Who cares about hardcore. And don't put that pressure on yourself to have 2lbs / week consistent. Cuz weight loss is never linear. It's a great "target" but if you don't make it, meh, it's not the end of the world. :)

You are doing great!!!

Fasting means no-calories. So technically you're not in a fasted state.

This is a misinformed statement.

There are different kinds of fasts. There is so much data from alternate day calorie restricted fasts and many experts believe this is the best type of fast for post-meno women in a long term setting. You can read more about fasting either with any of the millions of links that we've posted here, or buy Jason Fung's book on fasting. Or if you prefer vegan approaches, check out Dr. Valter Longo's Longevity Diet. Also other books dealing with a LIMITED number of calories per day on fasts would be:

Dr. Johnson's Alternate Day Diet

Dr. Krista Varady's Every Other Day Diet

Dr. Michael Mosley's Fast Diet

These are all books based on the same type of diet that features caloric restriction and is based on the work of Drs. Mark Mattson, Valter Longo, and Krista Varady as well as the people down at LSU who studied fasting and SIRT genes with relation to asthma reduction.

@Sheribear68 You are doing awesome!!! Don't get caught up in legalism. Do your thing and fast with your milk. These books above all show that SIRT genes ARE activated even in the presence of whey protein consumption (ie milk). SIRT genes are a set of longevity genes that are repair genes that go in and lengthen telemeres (the end caps on our genes) and they help restore and heal.

I have done a modified version from the start (~2 oz of pp in coffee 1x daily-breakfast) It helped ease me into the lifestyle and I was able to do it for 5 days straight my first go

Ive also done purer fasts wet and dry. What I noticed was the dryer the fast (consumption of no calories or liquids) the faster hunger dissipated and the quicker I lost weight (so I reserve these for religious & medical reasons)

These days I have given up coffee entirely ?, but my tea has a little cream in it.

I did IF by accident yesterday and ended up losing 2lbs overnight (likely from water weight but TMI: im in the luteal phase of my cycle where I traditional gain lbs)

HAPPY FASTING EVERYONE

You are an IF rockstar girl!!! Honestly, I think all of us: you, @sillykitty and I have all done the PP in coffee on fast days. I'm sitting here with 1oz in my coffee now. :D I'm gonna go for a second cup of it later. And I'll likely have broth later. Cuz yesterday was too hard and stressful. So will make it easier and be able to go longer.

Have you tried the peaches and cream PP in your tea? I bet the strawberries and cream would also be good. I heart strawberry tea!!

Congrats on 2lbs overnight!!!! Woot! (Or do I say sorry for your loss? I know you are trying to maintain!) Happy luteal phase? ?

LOL, I have to share this with you guys here cuz you will appreciate this. This was on FB this morning from A DOCTOR, and MD...now granted, this doctor is MO by anyone's scale. And has no business preaching "healthy dietary improvements" until he fixes his own issues. But man. He termed this his HEALTHY GREEN DETOX SMOOTHY and gave the recipe for it. So I plugged it into MFP. And this is for 1 smoothy. LOL. Dear god. In what universe is it "healthy" to blend 1 tiny cup of spinach up with all this other gut bomb? 87g of carbs and 53g of sugar in 1 SMOOTY!!! And he's calling it "healthy". No wonder we are all having weight issues! 'merica. Come on. Use your brain!

I used to put peaches and cream in my Matcha (we're on a break ?) but not strawberry yet... I'm still in the 150s so no big deal

How long is your bypass ?
