@JamesL73 .... you worry me :(

"I look at carbs as evil incarnate...... I strive for ZERO carbs, ..it's definitely a goal that I obsess over."

"I went from 420 to 190 after my VSG .... focus strictly on exercise all day every day."

"I liked the "Don't eat" part. It's something I have had rattling in my mind lately. With all these Vitamin and mineral supplements in patch form, I'm wondering how long a person could actually survive and be moderately active, without eating at all. But supplementing with Patches."

None of that is a healthy mindset. Have you ever seen a therapist who specializes in eating disorders?

I might could use some therapy but it is definitely not for any eating disorders. So maybe the word "obsess" was a bit much. There's absolutely nothing wrong with aiming for zero carbs. And ok, so I didn't literally exercise 24/7. And lastly, what's wrong with questioning the possibilities with todays technological and medical advancements?? I guess I should choose my words more carefully.

Thanks @FluffyChix ... I'll do some reading!

I know her current plan is 18:6, and staying under 800 cals/day, and getting 60 g of Protein. I think she has lost about 20 lbs to date, and would like to lose about 30 more to get to her "happy weight". If she could get there by actually eating more, then all the better!

Wow! What a transformation for her! You must be so proud of her?

Make sure she knows she has to have feast days too--unless she's in ketosis. But even then, they say to have feast days. I think the reason we don't have the metabolic decline is due to something in our surgery. But normies have to beware of it? Sounds like a good plan. :) There's also the other book by Moseley about the Newcastle Diabetes Diet (800 calorie blood sugar cure. I think it's the 8 Week Diabetes Cure maybe? It is based on 8 weeks on an 800 calorie Mediterranean style diet.

I'm going to have to disagree on a lot of levels @JamesL73

I think what all of us here are striving for is a lifelong sustainable eating plan. Zero carbs isn't practical or sustainable. I'd also suggest it's not healthy, as it would eliminate, fruits, grains, Fiber.

You quit working for a year to focus on exercise. That is also not practical or sustainable. When you went back to work you regained.

It's not about questioning what's possible with technology, it's about you being drawn to the "Don't eat" idea. Your attraction to that idea, excessive exercise, and villainization of food groups are pretty classic signs of anorexia.

I really think you need to work with a professional on how to live with food. Your mentality now seems to be that it's the enemy.

Finishing up my first week of IF and I can’t thank you guys enough! My stall seems to breaking (after 1 1/2 months).

Anyone else get diarrhea after a 20:4 day? Not complaining at all since I’m usually at the extreme other end of the spectrum but I was just curious. I did eat half of a 6 inch meatball sub from subway (still will be under 50g carbs for the day) so I’m thinking that was the trigger.

@JamesL73 stay safe and healthy 💙

Always! Even though some people might not agree. (Winking at sillykitty) Thank you though.

Started my liquid diet on 5/15, at 320 lbs. As of this morning down to 303. 🤘

I think I experienced a good 30 hrs dry fast yesterday and a bit of the night before. I see the effects of autophagy work. Mind you, before @sillykitty has me comitted, this was most definitely not intentional. My work sent me out to a jobsite to relieve another guy. I was told it would only be for a few hours so I wasn't prepared with Water or protein....30 hrs later I finally got relief. I dropped 5 lbs in 2 days. I wasn't even very active either. That's pretty crazy. I never felt bad or a lack of energy though. I've done IF and some 24 hrs water fasts in the past but never tried a dry fast. I can see it being a tool for possibly breaking stalls later. I have no intention of doing that any more before surgery, nor for quite a while after.

Too funny... At least your sense of humor didn't go anywhere.

Its tough reading stories on the boards and not knowing who may need more help than they say (we are a cautious bunch... Hell i was assumed to have disorder eating too at one point) but if you say you're fine... Respect

But

KALE.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

KALE

🤔 You know, TBH, I don't believe I have ever tried Kale. I used to loved big ol` lettuce salads but since my VSG in 2015, I haven't been able to eat any lettuce, even when finely shredded. It causes such severe pain it causes me to throw it up immediately. I've tried a few times over the past few years. I've tried different types of leafy vegetables too, but don't think kale was one of them. Might try that when I can go back to solids.

People with an eating disorder will always say "I'm fine!" so that's no indicator (not saying that James has one).

Hell. I'll own it. :) I am pretty certain I have an eating disorder. :) :( But it isn't anorexia. If it was, I'm also very certain I would be below my Barbie DreamGirl Goal by now. But if being obsessive about tracking and counting and eating clean is disorderly...I would much rather have that kind of eating disorder rather than bulimia or anorexia. Cuz dear lord and bless those who suffer from that dragon on their backs. :57_cry:

(And btw, not implying anyone in this thread has an ED! I don't see disordered eating in anyone here. :) Not even kale would get our @GreenTealael there!!!)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
