Worlds longest stall

Recommended Posts

2 years post op and lost nearly 200 pounds. I have been in a stall for almost a year. I fluctuate about 10 pounds (gain and then loss) but I cannot get below the 190 mark. I have tried everything! I workout 5 days a week, try to stay at 1200 canals although with the excercise calorie adjustment it is usually around 1500c. I feel EXTREMELY guilty when I put anything bad in my mouth but then there a days ( usually once a month) when I will go on a mini binge and have little Snacks throughout the day that are completely unhealthy. I love the way I feel but I still have fat brain and I am EXTREMELY frustrated that I can’t drop below 190! Btw...this is my first post, I usually just troll :)

Hello

My name is Tina. I am 14 months post op from a RNY Gastric bypass. I just wanted to encourage you to say dont be so hard on yourself! You are doing awesome!!!!! Wow 200 pounds is more than an achievement, it is nothing short of a milestone!!

Sometimes we do have stalls in our weight loss. I would talk to my surgeon and nutritionist about what your target weight would be. My team gave me a target weight like most.

It sounds to me like you are doing above and beyond with 200 pounds! Lol..

Keep up the great work and keep moving forward as you are!
Your weight loss journey is a beautiful one! [emoji2]

Blessings!

Tina

I am probably not one to give advice, my stalls last for months. Don't feel guilty about having a treat every now and then, sometimes eating something different entices your body to start losing again.

Something that worked for me was to change my exercise. I used to go to the gym and lift weights but after awhile I stalled and I couldn't lose any more. I then decided to stop going to the gym and I started running and lost 15 lbs pretty quickly.

Don't get stuck in a routine, keep your body guessing what's coming next. Change your exercise habits from time to time, and change what you are eating.

I am going to suggest intermittent fasting. I am trying it and even though I did it incorrectly in the beginning it boosted my losing ability (i'm going to continue it on a stricter protocol and document it better)

Its not really hard or a super long term commitment, google it and see what you think.

Wow congrats on your major accomplishments!!

I'm not a gym person--walking only and starting to do some baby whole body movement stuff to increase core strength only. So it's not like I have a huge caloric burn from exercise. I've heard that you shouldn't "re-eat" your exercise calories during weight loss mode. So maybe keep your one day a month cheat, but try to get some kind of plan or organization to it, so you know what to expect and estimate from that cheat day, but then go back to eating 1200 cals/day.

Weigh, measure and log every bite. Protein first. Dense protein first. Clean up the crap. Limit the amount of cheese and processed meats. Toss out crappy simple carbs and excess bread. Ditch sugar if it's in your life. Limit artificial sweeteners, Protein Bars, Protein Drinks as much as you can. Eat pretty clean: dense lean protein, healthy fats, 1/2c of veggies, 1/8c salad of some kind or avocado/tomatoes. Drink LOTS. Eat 3 meals + 1-2 small Snacks if you need them (100 cal prot/veg or low glyc fruit snack).

And see where that gets you? You can eat a crap ton of food for 1200 cals if it's lean and mean healthy food. I know. I presently eat a crap ton of food on only about 650-850 cals day.

If you’re not losing weight but are instead maintaining weight then you need to cut your calories for additional weight loss. Many people only lose weight in the 800-1000 range and maintain at 1200+ calories.

You need to remember that as you get closer to goal weight your body requires fewer total calories.

Are you seeing a therapist to work through your binge eating tendencies? This will also sabotage your weight loss.

Good luck! We’re rooting for you!

Congratulations on losing 200 pds and doing so well on exercising. Believe it or not I’m motivated by your story. I’m 13 months out and been stalled since November around the 190 mark. I’ve only lost 50 pounds. I’ve had 2 non-weightloss surgeries since my RNY and have not been motivated to exercise. The fact that your so diligent and keep trying is a beautiful thing. Some of the suggestions already given sound great like seeing a therapist and changing your routine. You’ve gotten this far I believe you will get to your goal.

Holy moly! 200 LBS! That is amazing. CONGRATULATIONS! That is a super long stall though but it sounds like you are doing everything right. I'd definitely talk to you doctor, nutritionist and a personal trainer. They can work as a team to come up with a unique approach to change some things around. Good luck, lady. You're an INSPIRATION!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
