Unexpected Changed Post Sx

Recommended Posts

I’m just 11 days post surgery so my body is still really in the early healing stages. I love this forum because all the contributors have answered so many of my questions and I felt more prepared realizing that a lot of things were normal parts of this way of life.

The one thing that shocked me today is the smell of cheddar cheese. I’ve always been a cheese lover and no other smells have really bothered me but my hubby nuked a chili cheese dog for his dinner and I got really nauseated from the foot odor smell of the cheese!

Anyone else have any out of the blue, unexpected surprises after surgery?

Yes, I had several food aversions early on....anything chocolate, like sf chocolate pudding made me barf and I tolerate a little now, but not that crazy about it anymore. A few months after surgery this dissipates somewhat. There are other weird things though - when I am full I get a runny nose, hiccups, or sneeze. I now stop eating sooner because I can tell before those things happen that 'soon' one will appear...lol hiccups are the norm now, but not unusual to get 2 of the 3 symptoms.

Thanks for the reply, I hope I have a similar outcome and that my aversion is only temporary,

I’m only 3 weeks out, but I have issues with anything sweeter than a Protein Shake. I used to love fruit on the bottom yogurt, but now the fruit part is too sweet, so I don’t mix it all the way in. Also, just the smell of nutella or Peanut Butter make me nauseous. I have issues with dense foods, too, but I think that’s bc it hasn’t even been a month yet.

4 days post-op and it may be my imagination, but I swear my smell is better. My family was eating Cool Ranch Doritos in the other room and I could smell it :) I didn't really want any, but they did smell good.

Same here. Today, it was the smell of toast.

I'm 3 1/2 months out and I'm now allergic to poultry! Wth! I've been told it could change back though.

I am a typical English girl who loves cup of tea but no more!

I can still drink it but it tastes strange and I no longer enjoy it like I used to :56_anguished:

With your positive attitude, you will sail through your surgery, no doubt about it. :450_trophy:

Lots of weird food aversions early on. Most of them went away completely. I pretty much have the same likes and dislikes. I just don't like things being too sweet now.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
