dinner last night was a tuna melt on zero carb bread inspired by all the beautiful sandwiches @GreenTealael makes. My bf ate the other half for me.

My very typical Breakfast. Protein varies slightly from time to time (ham, chicken, salmon).

Made Mexican't Pizzas for dinner last night. I can't call them Mexican Pizzas since one of them pretty much fell into a sloppy mess when I tried moving it to the plate (structural integrity of the bottom tortilla was nearly nonexistent) and because apparently my boyfriend loaded his dinner salad up with all of the rest of the shredded taco cheese leaving me with only Italian 3 Cheese blend to use.

That said...they were still delicious and I polished off 1.5 of the 2 I made. And I have plenty of leftover fillings so these will be back on the menu for Thursday night. I WILL be getting taco cheese (or maybe some cotija) before then.

(I like to think this is the ancestor of Iowa’s Loose meat Sandwich 😂)

Loose meat sandwiches are so strange to me! Always reminds me of this story. My practice husband got a promotion and transfer to Iowa a few months after our first kid was born. He started working before we actually moved of course.

One night he called me trying to explain this weird hamburger he got at a drive through. He was trying to explain it to me and I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Finally he said, “It’s like you’re making spaghetti with meat sauce and you stop before you put sauce in it” For some reason that cracked me up and stuck with me 32 years later!

I lived in Iowa for 5 years and never tried one.

P.S. - I'm not really watching cals/macros (I don't log every meal, just the lower carb ones so I can feel accomplished 🤫😂)

I officially became 3 yrs post WLS this past weekend and all of the experts (my 🔥🔥🔥 PA) say to stay vigilant starting the 2nd -3rd year so I'm trying become more mindful but not obsessive

If you want it less sloppy here some ideas. (I’m the taco queen)

Crisp up your tortilla on a baking sheet with a rack first. Add the cheese and Beans after its crisper then melt. Have the sauce warmed up on the side and drizzle it over. Btw, check out hard taco shells in the store, most are 50 calories or less!

What's the reasoning behind this, like what makes the 2nd to 3rd year that special?

I'd have to ask again but I believe it was the slowdown/ending of the "Honeymoon" phase

In my experience, end of year 2 is when I first had some weight gain. It seems like that is when the last of the sleeve magic wore off for me.

The years after that were just like normal non-sleeve for gaining/losing weight (which I did several times). Capacity increased a lot too.

Interesting. Didn't notice anything special during that time span. After about 1 to 1.5 years I didn't notice any changes anymore for me regarding portion sizes or appetite/hunger.

If I wanted to I could easily overeat and gain right now. I’m 2+ years out. I have to be vigilant and write everything down. I no longer eat when I’m stressed (I lose my appetite) or bored and I plan most of my meals in advance. I do allow myself some junk type foods now, but in very limited quantities and frequency.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
