When did you really start to feel restriction?

Recommended Posts

I'm one month (almost) post-op and having NO issues with drinking my Water or my shakes. I'm easily getting in about 100 ounces of fluids per day and 80-90 grams of Protein. Greek yogurt (4 ounces yesterday for dinner) and Jello aren't an issue either. That being said, this "ease" concerns me. I haven't felt restriction really at all. I'm looking ahead at the eating plan, and I'm afraid the 1 ounce of meat won't cause any restriction for me. I start the puree stage next week.

I had gastric bypass and it was when I tried to transition into the solid state that I could really feel it.

I had sleeve and really didn't feel any restriction until I was on solids.

As I understand it, everything you’ve listed are known “sliders,” meaning they go down easily with little to no restriction. solid food will definitely be different. I can easily down Greek yogurt but 2 oz of thinly shredded chicken salad in lite mayo fills me up!

Wow! I am so glad you posted this. I’m a week post op and found myself searching the forum last night for “how much should I be able to drink” and “I can put away a lot of water” 😂

Glad I am not the only one! The first few days were rough, but once day 5 hit, I could get down Water with ease and was able to drink a premier shake in around a half hour-40 minutes. It was getting me nervous!

Have been wondering the same thing. The fluids seem to going down so easily. No more baby sips either.

Thanks for the responses all. I don't sip anymore either. I can tell if I've had too much because I will either burp or hiccup. No nausea, no anything. I just drink mostly like I normally did, but my gulps are "baby gulps" I guess (2-4 ounces). It's a relief to be getting enough fluids and Protein right now, but the restriction is something I'm really hoping for when solids come.

It's important to remember that liquids and certain foods (sliders) will pass right through your sleeve. Liquids, if you consume at the same rate or slower than your sleeve/pouch/stomach empties, you'll *never* feel any restriction at all, if you consume faster than your sleeve/pouch/stomach empties then you'll feel it. Now meat shouldn't do that because of the texture, it should "hang around" more and you'll notice it. Once you start getting into the soft solids you'll start to notice it more, you might get some with puree's as well if you make them a tad on the dry side. Don't worry, everything sounds 100% normal thus far.

Totally normal. No restriction with liquids whatsoever, from the beginning. But I just had an ounce of chicken and I'm totally stuffed. Five months out now.

Thank you! My post-surgery lack of hunger has faded. I’m now on my 3rd or 4th sugar free popsicle of the day. Soft foods can’t come soon enough. 😂

Fluids go right through you. In your stomach for 15 minutes max ( l think that's what i was told) but that being said I do remember being told that you can retrain your stomach to empty too fast, ask your team about the validity of this

Just a small amount of solid Proteins give me a lot of restriction even now , 8 month post op

every time I swear I have no restriction, boom salmon fillet wins, 3oz and I'm done. If I'm questioning my restriction, too many sliders in my diet, time to tighten up.

Me toooo! I am able to drink with no problems. In fact, Last night I picked up my cup of ice Water and took a normal swig without even thinking. the second I felt it going down I was like NOOOOOOO!!!! lol but I was actually OK. I burped a couple times and I was good. I did a massive google search myself because I have friends who could barely get in the fluids they needed and I felt like something was wrong with me. Apparently liquids alone will not stretch or damage your new stomach. Which is a freaking relief. lol

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
