At what stage should we allow the good fats like avocado? They are one of my favorite foods but I've been avoiding them because of the high carb and fat content. Half a small Haas is 4g of cargs, 6.6g of fat and .9g or Protein. I know in normal diets it's not much but for us is that alot? Wish they had more protein, I could eat them all the time.

Whole 30 is a 30 day elimination diet—it gets rid of all 7 allergen foods, and sugar and a few other things that may be inflammatory. After 30 days you reintroduce Foods. It forces you to eat really healthy. Paleo has no dairy, or grains or processed sugars and such. Go look them up on Pinterest. They’re super good for you—according to my nutritionist and doctors. Don’t go Keto though research is now showing that it’s killing people. As for avocados I didn’t realize that it had that much im not sure. I was thinking about eating the teeny tiny avocados from Trader Joe’s

What is the whole 30?? And paleo?

copied from google....

Paleo=Meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, healthy fats and oils. Avoid: Processed foods, sugar, soft drinks, grains, most dairy products, legumes, artificial sweeteners, vegetable oils, margarine and trans fats.

What You Can't Eat on Whole30
  • Dairy. This means no cheese, cow milk, yogurt, cream, sour cream, kefir, and butter. ...
  • Grains. This means no corn, rice, quinoa, wheat, rye, millet, sorghum, amaranth, buckwheat, bulgur, or sprouted grains.
  • Alcohol. ...
  • Legumes. ...
  • Added Sugar. ...
  • Carrageenan, MSG, and Sulfites. ...
  • "Junk" food.

Paleo eating is a long term lifestyle, while Whole30 is meant to be a reset for your system. ... Whole30 diet eliminates all the same foods as paleo but also includes limits on: Sugar in all forms, including honey, maple Syrup, coconut sugar.

I had avocado the first day of my pureed stage - it was delicious! I wasn't told to avoid it or anything so I made some guacamole (just avocado, Tomato, onion, garlic, little lemon juice) and then pureed it and added it to a pureed piece of a homemade "skinny" enchilada. It was DELICIOUS!

We all have different plans though, so I don't know whether it's okay on others' plans. I haven't had it again since but mostly because I keep forgetting to pick one up/tell hubby to get one!

I was not told to avoid it or not eat avocado specifically. But my plan does say to eat a low fat/high Protein diet. Which unfortunately avocado does not fall under either category.

Something told me I needed to check in here today and now I see it must have been the avocado calling me. lol

I started avocados day one of pureed. I needed it in my life again. I did add some of my unflavored Protein Powder to you for the added benefit. Sooooo good!

And on the other topics above, I attempted Whole30 before and it was hard. But I feel that was only because I still had major sugar cravings and head hunger. I imagine it would be easier now. I really did love eating healthy foods while I was on it because it forced you to eat such a variety of foods and seeing all those colors on my plate made me healthy.

I did do the 21 Day Sugar Detox once too. That was really helpful, but it didn't fully get rid of my sugar cravings. Again, would probably work better now as I have very few cravings post-op.

My favorite of all meal plans is Paleo. I love, love, love this way of eating. I have about 7 Paleo cookbooks in my house and follow a ton of Paleo cooks on Instagram. My two favorites are Nom Nom Paleo (http://www.nomnompaleo.com) and Diane Sanfilippo (https://balancedbites.com/recipes/) - she also authored the 21 Day Sugar Detox.

I really can't wait until I can get back to regular food so I can get back to Paleo. I never followed it hard core, I was about 80% Paleo, 20% regular food. This helped me never feel deprived or that I was missing out on anything.

What Protein powder do you add to stuff? I have genpro that claims 30g protein in one scoop, but... it tastes rather bitter to me

I struggle with this a lot too! Being in Vegas, we have a hella ton of amazing food options!

I'm trying to pay close attention to real hunger vs head hunger. When I have head hunger, I have to talk myself though it and try to set my thought on something else. It's hard though.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
