Haven’t lost more weight

Recommended Posts

I haven’t lost 1 pound in over a month. I have definitely been eating less food, less calories, less times per day. But I am getting no exercise because I lost my job and I am sitting at the computer all day long, looking for another job. I haven’t lost 1 pound in over a month. I have definitely been eating less food, less calories, last times per day. But I am getting no exercise because I lost my job and I am sitting at the computer all day long, looking for another job. I admit I am drinking wine, which I know is a lot of calories but my depression and stress from finances has me so sad I don’t feel like doing anything else. Next month will be my three month check up and I should be around 40 to 50 pounds weight loss and I barely lost 20, and I lost nine in my first week after surgery only because I was just drinking fluids. I have tried to go back on your fluids: broth, sugar-free Jell-O, sugar-free pudding, Crystal light, etc., But I haven’t lost one single pound I can’t seem to get past that number on the scale. So basically it means I’ve only lost about 10 pounds on my own in two months, which is ridiculous and very disheartening. I hate to think I went to all this trouble, and the surgery only to lose about 10 pounds, when I thought by now I would be about 50 pounds lighter.

I'm so sorry you are struggling, losing a job takes a huge emotional toll. When you go for your check up let them know the emotional strain you are under maybe you can get some counseling support.

Sorry you are going through this stress. Praying you have the strength to get back on track! Suggest you get up from the computer and take 10-15 minute breaks every hour! Walk the neighborhood if you can or if you have a treadmill get on the machine! The breaks may help breakdown the depression and help you look at things in a better light! Good luck, God Bless!

I'm so sorry you are feeling really stressed and have lost your job. As others have said, getting up and away from the computer at least a few times a day to walk a bit would probably do your mental health even more good than your physical health.

You said you are eating less food, less calories and less times a day. Do you mean less than you used to pre-surgery? or less than you were earlier post op? If you are having more than a glass of wine a day it's likely that the wine is part of the problem (unless you happen to be in a long stall). I don't drink wine but google tells me there is about 125 calories in a glass of wine, 625 in a bottle.

If you aren't already, I strongly recommend you start tracking all your food and fluids in something like MyFitnessPal, including any alcoholic drinks, so you can get a real picture of your current caloric intake. If you are only taking in about 1000 calories then expect the scale to eventually start shifting down again, even while not exercising. But if the wine and current food choices are pushing you up past 1200-1500 calories then that might account for your weight loss stalling.

I know money is tight but find a head hunter to help you get a job, even temp agencies just to get you through until something permanent comes along. But you must step out of your house, go for two walking breaks every six hours at the computer. Or go to the library and use their computer - harder to drink wine there lol.....find a support group at church or a meetup group exercise or anything - book club because the more people that you let know you need work the better, sometimes word of mouth is the best job resource. Find a wls group and attend. Hang in there.

Thanks to all your helpful tips I’m back on track. I walked a lot this week and I’ve lost a few more pounds. I know I can’t expect too much of myself but I know what I’m doing wrong and I know I didn’t go through this surgery for nothing. I’m getting serious and getting in a better mindset because I know I have to get back out in the workforce (after losing my job) and feel confident and look confident. That has always been a barrier for me, I’ve got college degrees and almost 30 years work experience in my field but younger, prettier girls are getting the jobs. I know this for a fact. Anyway I’m going to keep trying… Thank you all for your help and kind words I’m getting back on the road to success before I see my doctor for my three month follow-up. Thank you all so much !!!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
