3 days post-op: worsening pain

Recommended Posts

Had RNY Monday, discharged Wednesday. Been doing fine since I’ve been home, no fever, vomiting, nausea, or signs of infection at incisions. I am, however, having worsening pain on the left side of my stomach (near largest incision) when I stand up/walk. When i sit down or am sitting/laying, it’s more of a normal soreness, but the pain I just had walking from my living room to my bedroom was enough to make me cry. It feels like everything is getting stretched too far when I’m performing those movements.

Is this normal post-op pain? I’m concerned because it’s worsened as the day goes on. I feel fine otherwise so don’t want to go to hospital unless absolutely necessary.

Hmmm. Have you just downgraded your pain relief? I just had my gallbladder out (gallstones being a common weight loss after effect). Was good but today! Three days post op, I also am very sore on the left of my tummy - but I have stopped my pain meds - so rather than pain starting, I realised it is feeling it that is just starting.

If you haven’t changed meds, I’d suggest you ring your surgeon’s clinic....

@kellibambam Did they give you an incentive spirometer? Are you using it?
Do you have any type of compression gear you can wear to see if it's the pull of your stomach/gut causing the issue?

Never hurts to call up your surgical team with questions, ESP only 3 days out!
As stated, it could also be the reduction in your pain meds.

Mine worsened 3 or 4 days after sleeve. Internal numbing stuff wore off. Mine hurt when standing up or walking so therefore I didn't do much. Learned since then that I was sitting too much which increased the pain when I moved. I will be asking for an epidural this time for the bypasd and will make sure to move around more afterwards.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
