Insurance doesn't cover surgery

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had an insurance policy that doesn't cover bariatric surgery? And what other options are there aside from paying over $20k?

You can finance through Care Credit, that’s how I’m getting mine done. Although I was fortunate to find a Dr in my state that does it for 10,000. You may do some research to see if you can find one with that price. I know of Dr’s in Florida, Dallas, and OK. Hopefully some others can chime in if they know of other locations where Dr’s do it for around that price. What state do you live in?

I'm pretty sure there was one someone quoted in Louisiana if that OP is still active maybe she will chime in. Also Dr Mark Pleatman in Michigan is pretty reasonable.

Thank you. My boyfriend's company changed insurance companies and new one doesn't cover surgery. Do you think he looked into it before doing 7 months with nutritionist? Of course not. I told him to review with their office lets see what we can do. My company is also switching insurance on July 1. Not sure if I should do my 3rd nutrition appt when that office isn't on my plan now.

The recovery from this surgery is relatively easy, so traveling for it would not be a major issue. FL flights are inexpensive.

Be careful. It's relatively easy for MOST people...but if you run into complications, being at a clinic away from home can turn into a nightmare.

Not a super common scenario, but it does happen pretty often (about 5% of patients...one in twenty). Lot of stories of folks here, in fact, who have had issues with strictures, bleeds, digestive issues, etc. Very important to figure out who is going to take care of you if problems arise once you get home, who you can call for help, ect.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
