LovelyJones whim wahs are very normal at this stage of the game, this is a life changing life altering thing we are going through! We will never be quite the same, now in my case that is pretty fine, I don't like having all the things this surgery is going to repair or at least lessen. This for me is a new chance where I felt there was no hope, a chance to,lose and live better than the sad obese existance I have now. If I cannot truly hop and dance,in the sunlight I at,least can March in place with a smile on my face. And if I can someday be an example and mentor for somebody newer to the process, that would be WONDERFUL Not many attempt it at 72,but I can ,i will and I shall win at this challenge. Join me, the best is yet tobe!🚩😛🚩

My RNY is scheduled for tomorrow (July 9)afternoon. Reality is crashing down on me today. My husbands grandma died on the 5th the viewing and funeral are tomorrow and Tuesday a state away. I am sending him there and my son is now taking over the hospital duties. I am a pretty structured person and had this all planned and formulated so to speak.
So today I not only have the magnesium citrate to deal with but also figuring out the details of my ride, making sure I have most everything I will need after I am home, having the “just in case something would happen” talk with my son, and getting together the phone numbers he will need to notify that things went smoothly. ( I already did that once with my husband) My husband and I joke and doctors somewhat agree that my structure borders on OCD. I loathe change especially now redoing it. I am also quite the introvert and a pretty private person. Sooooo other than my husband it is really hard to say some of this stuff to others. But I don’t want to say it to him right now as I don’t want him NOT attending his grandmothers funeral either and I know he would stay here if I mentioned it. EVERY (and I mean every) conversation of theirs I heard over the last few years ended with her saying remember you are one of my pall bearers. I just can’t do that to him or to her for that matter.
I can certainly open up to my children but anyone who is a bit introverted knows there are people you “let in” more than others and I have certainly moved that focus from the children (all adult children and living in four different states) to my husband since we have been together.
My son who lives here in CO is happy to help but I guess I need to leave my comfort zone and allow his help at this point. It just sucks that my husband went through all of the appointments and nutritionist classes with me and now I won’t have him here.
Sorry I just needed to get it off my chest with people who MAY understand.
Funny too I am normally a much smoother and better composer of writing and I apologize for this is a bit choppy and unorganized and grammatically wrong I am sure.
Again, thanks for letting me vent!

Sorry for you loss @passportx2 also to your husband. It sounds to me like you have worked everything out so there will not be any issues. Have faith in your son, I'm sure he will surprise you. I'm sure everything will go much smoother than you ever thought it would. Have a wonderful surgery and a smooth speedy recovery!!!

This diet has been the hardest. I cheated on day 1 and had the little debbie snack cake. Karma smacked me with diarrhea for 5 days. Haven't cheated since. It has gotten easier over time. I dont get to far from the restroom for fear. Day 2 and 3 I was hangry. I apologized to everyone before I started this diet. I am so blessed to be supported at work and home.

As a sister OCD introvert I can relate, but have found it easy to "talk" on this forum. I saw this recently: Life Begins at the End of Your Comfort Zone. Seems appropo at this life juncture as I wait for my Big Day on the 17th. I suspect you have everything so well organized pre and post hospital that it wasn't a hardship to send DH off to his g'mother's funeral. All contingencies covered, yes? That's what we do - plan for the unexpected. So nice to have his support, but you can do this on your own if necessary. My thoughts are with you! You will find all the support you want here.

Hi everyone! I am scheduled on 7-4-18.....independence day... from obesity :) Getting very nervous about the preop diet. Anyone else?

My pre-op diet is really great! My surgery got pushed back so I started then stopped. I can’t wait to start again. It’s the most filling diet I’ve ever been on. It’s called the Robard diet with new direction products. It’s awesome. July 25th here I come!

Talk these over with your surgeon. Mine gives me 20 days of blood thinner injections to do at home to avoid blood clots

Same here. My surgeon is giving me 7 days of home injection blood thinners. I agree, you should speak with your surgeon about that.

Thank you so very much for the earlier rant and compassion as I vented. I am now post op day 5 and for the first time I woke up feeling semi human. I had no pain in hospital.... none.... zilch.... nada. But once I was home that was a different story. In addition to the pain I couldn’t even get two ounces of Water to stay down. After calling surgeon I was then put on IV fluids as I was dehydrated. They also gave me gas-x which I believe is what did the trick. Ohhhhh how I wish I had known I would have taken some to hospital just to get the ball rolling. Just so very happy I may actually get something accomplished today.

Oh, Passport, I am so glad to know things are going better for you. I have tucked some Gas-X in my go bag for my surgery next Tuesday 7/17. Hoping things will be smooth sailing for you going forward.

The same day you are having your surgery I will be meeting with my Dr Needleman for my presurgical consult, so I hope to be following👣close behind you, and as it gets closer I keep getting more and more excited. July is a beautiful wonderous month for us all!😛👍😛

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
