Think about all the positive things and love in your life and carry those happy thoughts with you. You're about to go take a really nice nap tomorrow and everything is going to feel like puppies and rainbows. Know that we are here for you when you're ready. You're about to embark on an incredible journey and I can't wait to join you! [emoji4] All the best.
I'm all done. My surgery was at about 7:45 this morning. Anesthesia makes me really sick so I was not a happy camper for a few hours. Once that wore off I've been good. Throat is a little sore. Tummy is also sore. Morphine pump is really helping a lot. My nurse got me some warm Decaf tea. It's wonderful. Been sipping Water all day. Did my swallow test. Maybe I can bust out tomorrow instead of Friday.

You sound like you're doing great! CONGRATULATIONS! So nice that you had an early morning surgery. Happy to read your update as I've been thinking of you. Have they had you walk at all? How are gas pains?

That’s good to hear... I was only in one day as well, and my throat was pretty sore too. I remember them taking me up to my room after surgery, and they literally got me off the bed, to walk in my room. I had to pee on the way... so I made it to the bathroom, but couldn’t pee because it hurt too much push. Then pumping fluids in, uggg bathroom trips were a nightmare!!

I've been up walking a few times. They basically said walk as much as you want, just don't be gone more than an hour or we'll worry 🤣. Gas pain has been ok. It was a lot worse this morning. Now it's just a twinge in my right shoulder

Hi all, hope everyone is going fine after their surgeries. I had mine here in Australia and pain relief has been given prior, plus fluctuate meds. All good here. I am recovering very well, except for sleeping so long after the surgery. Sounds like no one has slept as long as I did. Pain has been okay. I am moving around quite well too. Been on top of the nausea. Doing the breathing exercises and wriggling the toes. I was told I would be in hospital 4-5 days. All the best to those yet to have their op.

LOL - good to hear. Love that you're up and walking. Keep up the great work! I guess I'll bring my Fitbit to the hospital.

Hi Friends!! I have a few questions. I'm nine days post op. I'm slowly starting to feel normal. My program has you not drink five minutes before a meal and 30 minutes after. They would like me to take only two pills at a time. Should i also not drink after taking meds? If i get the six meals a day in (not even close yet!) That's 3 hours of not drinking. I'm concerned adout needing to do that with meds as well. Any thoughts? Thank you!!

It's encouraging to see everyone doing well!!

I'm one-week post-op today. My surgery was a success, even though my hospital experience wasn't. I'm happy for everyone who had successful outcomes all the way around.

I feel cheated and still need to vent. I was soooo excited about my big day, so I have that I still fee bitter about the sub-standard CARING I received. Note the word CARING and not CARE. I expected to be treated much differently -- in a more compassionate and CARING way. Instead of being recognized as a chronic pain patient having bariatric surgery, I was treated like someone with ordinary pain. My surgery site was not the source of my pain, but I was treated as though it was. One mg of morphine for me is a Jell-O cup. I was not recognized as a whole person, and when I tried to get relief and mentioned the word GRIEVANCE, everyone turned into SAVE-MY-BUTT mode. There are details that don't give my story a bigger-picture perspective, so just try to imagine feeling dismissed or made to feel as though you had little value and had no right to expect better treatment.

Help me release this anger, please! PLEASE!!! It's time for me to get on with my healing. I don't want to think about my grievances with the hospital any longer. I want to Celebrate the new and improved me. I want to feel happy. Does anyone have a magic wand?

I am so sorry you had to go through that. Vent away. I don't have a magic wand that can make it better but hopefully a reminder that the surgery is over and now you can start a new healthier life will help you see the bright side.

Hey. I’m Bev I’m new here. Having surgery June 26th. Been on liquid diet for 10 days. It’s not as hard as I had thought it would be. Now I have broken out with a cold sore. Aaahhh. I’m wondering if I should call my surgeon and if he might cancel surgery because of it?? What do you think?? Surgery is on Tuesday.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
