Anyone go to the hospital alone?

I did go alone in a lyft, no issue but when it got to the moment i did get a little anxious and started crying. My surgeon personally tended to me, it wasn't like i was going to change my mind, i guess the anticipation of going under the knife got to me, we prepare for months to years for this day. But all in all i had a good experience. I went home in less then 48hrs assisted , trust me the pain after will require that you be escorted home, so plan for that. Still took a cab home though so my boyfriend could sit in the back with me just incase and could assist me out the car. Cause the pain is no joke.

This is the perfect example of everyone being different. I had little pain, and required no assistance.

Indeed! I loved the ride home. I felt great. But as soon as I got home, I wave of pain came over me lol

It’s absolutely possible and empowering if you can do that. I thought about it but my hospital required someone to be present until I woke from surgery and recovery. Let me tell you - I recommend it. I had a fairly easy recovery but having an advocate for you that is completely coherent and focused was a god send. It also helped that they could read the situation as well - and offer encouragement, distract my mind and help ease the ‘oh crap what have I done’ anxiety. You may have none of that. I was unprepared for how helpless I was and wanted to be.

I did for another surgery. My hubby came to get me when I was discharged but I took an Uber to get there.

To answer your post, my hospital requires someone to be with you at discharge (unless you leave AMA as someone else brought up).

To go off-topic on your post, I'm cracking up at people who told their family members to go to work or not worry about being there. My mom and husband were at the hospital from 7am to 8pm on surgery day and came back the next day around 9am, staying again until 6pm or so - and my in-laws came that second day, too. I was in surgery (pre-op, op, recovery) from 9am to 7pm the first day and too drugged and groggy and sleepy to even remember most of the next day. But there they were! We all walked the halls together, including my dad too at one point. There's no judgment either way but it just tickles me to think of some folks being alone in their hospital room for 24-48 hours and then there's me with my entourage

If my husband had stayed the 2 days I was in the hospital, I would have gone mad. He's a "hoverer". I don't like to be the "hoveree". He was at the hospital until I got put in a room, then I sent him home to sleep. The next day I told him to go to work and I would call him when they were filling out my discharge papers. I think it's whatever makes the patient feel best and we are all soooo very different!

I had my husband bring me. He stayed for about an hour while I was prepped and such. I absolutely did not want him to have to sit and wait the six or so hours for me to wake up and be coherent. I wanted to be alone. He came with my kids after surgery and I was so out of it. They ended up going back home. I just felt I was better to be alone then to have visitors.

You are there for renovations,remodeling, and realigning your life and health, not to host or hostess a beach party. This is a stone cold serious undertaking and not an afternoon at the theme park. You won't come out there with your name embroidered on a hat, 3 balloons and a half empty container of buttered popcorn. You'll come home knowing you and your health are forever changed. But you have come this far and you'll stay the course until your goals are met. You'll be too busy for silly reindeer games, besides this is a grown up undertaking, 😛👍And you'll make it after all!
