Ok. So I’ve been on my Optifast diet for 10 days. At least 3 shakes a day and then either a bar or a Soup. Or just 5 shakes. Any combination of the 5 items as long as I do at least 3 shakes a day. I’m also adding Protein Powder to these items so I get an extra 21g Protein. And I’m averaging 90+ oz of Water a day.

So that’s the background. Now, I have had my period for 4 days. It is super heavy and I’m so crampy! This is the worst period I’ve had since my early 20’s! And it shows no signs of stopping!

I do have PCOS (I was diagnosed at 17). I also have the Nexplanon implant. That’s what’s so crazy! I had it put in January 2017 and after about 3-4 months, I stopped having a period altogether.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea as to what’s going on here? I’m going to be super embarrassed if I’m still dealing with this in 3 days when its surgery day! [emoji37]

It isn’t uncommon for your menstrual cycle to change when your diet changes also.

If you are still on your cycle come surgery you maybe able to use a menstrual cup (google divacup). Ask your team ahead of time just in case. When i got wind that my period would occur during surgery i requested to be rescheduled, there was no way i was dealing with that , turned out to be a good decision

When I was Keto (which you likely are with that kind of Protein intake), my cycle was HEAVY. Like murder scene every day for 8 days heavy. It’s something about estrogen being released and giving you the bad period. I hope it stops for you before surgery day!

That’s exactly it! And it’s still friggin happening! Good lord! I’m going to call tomorrow to see if they have and suggestions but I’m definitely not canceling. I’m sure this has happened before and they’ll know what to do. I’m not ridiculously crampy anymore, but I definitely want to let them know that this is most likely still going to be going on. [emoji849] Stupid lady stuff! [emoji23]

I had lung surgery a few years ago and had a heavy period during it. They didn’t give it a second thought. They will probably give you pads. They told me no tampons, I don’t know about a cup though. Just make sure they give you plenty of those heavy duty body wipes after so you can clean up.

I’m just posting this in case anyone searches this thread and is looking for info. I had my sleeve done 5/15 and I was using a cup. BAAAADDDDD IDEA. When they inserted a catheter (which I was told they wouldn’t during the operation), it pushed the cup up further than its ever been before. It was a nightmare to get out. They had to remove the catheter earlier than they wanted to, and I spent at least an hour trying to dig the thing out, because it was lodged and going on 18 hours in there. That is zero fun post op :(. My recommendation - ask for pads and do NOT use a cup.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
