My Surgery was 4/8/18

Recommended Posts

You had your surgery pretty recently, so I don't think you're at a stall. Stalls usually last months... I've been at the same weight for about 3 months. I also had a weight loss pause about a month out, but it only lasted about a week or two. Are you taking Probiotics? This definitely helped me lose some more weight. Premier Protein is a great shake that can help you get your Protein in.

I'm in the same boat! I had my sleeve 4/10 and after the weeks 1 and 2 diet I dropped something like 14 pounds in 2 weeks. I was over the moon! I just went for a non-bariatric appointment today and when they weighed me I've only lost 2 pounds since 4/20. I was losing that much when I was dieting prior to surgery. I was expecting to be dropping weight like crazy these first couple weeks.

Full disclosure, I've had some stuff I'm not supposed to yet. Both liquid and non liquid. I'm SUCH an emotional eater. And after a rough day I've grabbed a tastycake from Wawa. Again, I don't make this a habit, and usually can't eat the whole thing. Also, Before surgery I was a coke zero fiend, not so much for the taste, but the caffeine. I'm pretty much useless before I've had any caffeine. I almost fell asleep on my way to work the other day because I've been trying to be good. But I've "cheated" a few times (I'd say no more than 5 times) by getting a chai tea latte or a diet Snapple. After all these trangressions, I immediately beat myself up about it. Like full on shame spiral. That usually whips me back into shape on the food front for a bit.

I know I'm self sabotaging, but after 2 weeks prior to surgery nothing but Protein Shakes and then Clear Liquids and Soup for 2 weeks after, I cannot force another shake down my throat. Also, I've tried tuna salad and got horribly sick from it. I finally got to the ricotta bake and chili, which should help, but still no "hard" Protein tolerance.

I've set up an alarm on my phone to remind me to drink, but let me tell you its a second full time job trying to get the bare minimum in. I'm just getting sad and discouraged that I went through all of this and then it won't work.

I was sleeved on 4/10 also. I went into surgery weighing 215 at my 2week post op apt i was 199 and as of this morning i am 196. This week has been slow but that's ok, it's the 3rd week And I've heard it happens around this time. I haven't cheated at all i honestly don't dare to eat anything that's not on my list of soft/puree foods. Have i had cravings for the not so good things....absolutely but I'm more afraid of not succeeding that i ingnore those cravings. I've been drinking Water all day and have 3 cups of fairlife fat free milk throughout the day (1c has 13g of protien) and that's pretty much it. I have no interest in drinking anything Crystal light related right now lol. I don't do the shakes at all anymore they make me sick. I'd love to just have a glass of Apple juice lol. Chin up, look at the end goal, this to shall pass!

I'm having problems getting in all my Protein and water!!! Also having trouble eating and losing weight I'm at a stall!!!

Everyone has a different pace of weight loss. Some go slow and steady for years others drop like a stone right out the gate. Your metabolic health will decide this for you.

1. get the Water in over all else -

2. work on the Protein as a goal and work up to it.

3. Post op is a Major Mental Game. You will win or lose in your head. This a multi year process and you have barely scratched the surface.

Post op is won or lost in the mental game.

There are so many options other than Protein Shake if you can't do that and dont eat eat tuna salad if you dont like it but dont use those 2 things to justify just having whatever you want.

If you want success in this then follow your doctors program.

ask for a referral to a Bariatric trained counselor for help with the emotional eating urges. GS will not fix the emotions that is on you to work thru.

From what I've heard, it's difficult to lose weight if you don't get your Protein in. Most doctors recommend at least 60g per day. My doctor actually wants me to get in 80g per day. I think it's cause I'm larger than most. It's not super easy to do, BUT if I eat high protein foods and I drink 2 Protein Shakes a day, I get it every time.

Water is SUPER important. I know that you know this. It can be dangerous for you if you don't get enough water in per day. You'll be at risk of dehydration. Drink that water. You can totally do it!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
