Type 1 diabetes and gastric bypass

Recommended Posts

Does anyone out there have type 1 diabetes and had gastric bypass surgery. I am excited to be starting this process but would love some feedback from anyone who has done it.

Thank you

Just make sure you work closely with your endocrinologist, surgeon, and RD and understand all the risks/benefits of the surgery. Have you post-op plan on board BEFORE you ever go into surgery.

I'm interested to hear what responses you get. I'm on the road to gastric bypass as well and I have Type 1. My endo and I have discussed this. He's on board with my doing it, but says while there is a lot of documentation on Type 2 and bypass, not so much on Type 1. He says we'll have to monitor it closely. I have a continuous glucose monitor so I'm hoping this will help me stay on top of my levels and avoid lows.

While RNY won't potentially get rid of Type 1 like Type 2, we are hopeful that the amount of insulin it takes to control my sugar will significantly decrease and that there will be positive results for my A1C. My main worry is having lows and how to treat them without dumping.

I feel exactly the same, my endo is on board but says I will need to be closely watched. I am concerned about the lows and how to treat them but I am excited about the thought of not taking so much insulin and losing some weight. I wear an insulin pump and have a dexcom that can be used to monitor sugars but I am still very nervous about what is to come

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
