Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!

I would love to make some surgery buddies now so we can go through all the pre-op requirements together and stick through surgery and beyond. Anyone else already know their surgery will occur this summer?

My surgery is going to fall in the July or August time frame. Most of this is dependent upon checking all my surgeon's boxes, the rest is dependent upon my financing since I'm self-pay. I'll be getting the sleeve.

I love my surgeon and feel really lucky to have found him. So far the pre-op stuff has gone smoothly, but I am just at the beginning stages. I've scheduled all my evals and classes and attended my first weight loss class last week. I found it to be mildly helpful. It was certainly geared more toward those that hadn't already read through the surgery binder and/or those that had no clue what healthy eating consisted of. I'm hoping future classes focus more on the post-op eating.

My first visit with my PCP about this surgery is next week as that's the soonest I could get in to see her. I'm hoping she'll be supportive as my surgeon knew of her when I told him that's who I see. But if I have to find another PCP so be it.

My first dietician appt is next week and psych eval is the week after that. I only have to get these three meetings out of the way to schedule my surgery. So I'm anxious to get that done!

I'm excited to hear from others along the same timeline as me!

So, this pre-op liquid diet....

I think I am messing up because I am not in ketosis...or i don't think i am?

1 2cup serving of cabbage soup (cabbage, tomato juice, lemon juice, splenda)

1 2cup serving of chicken broth with half a lemon and pepper

4 protien shakes with 2g or less sugar in each.

1 serving of sugar free jello

I am horrible at drinking so maybe I am messing up there?

My pre surgery diet is 4 shakes a day less than 5 grams fat and 7 grams carb/ sugar.
1 8oz v 8 juice low sodium
1 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
2 6oz beef bone or chicken bone broth
Sugar free jello 1/2 cup
64 oz water. My calories are at 918 and grams of protein is 118.

I feel so inadequate now not knowing my calorie count... :(

Ours looks similar but I think my shakes have more fat, or some of the brands do. I have a mix of brands because flavor boredom.

How soon did you go into ketosis to shrink the liver? Are there any signs?

Anyone know?! (anxious now that I think I am doing this wrong!!!)

If your following the plan given to you than how could you not do it right. Follow it and dont over think it. Everyones plan is different.

My condolences to you and your family. Praying all is well for you. I’m kinda new here. I’ve been just looking reading, replies every now and then. I see we are surgery buddies. Thought I would say Hi.:D Not much of a social media person. But I love having people to relate too. Which I had found this site back in March.

Hello all. Checking in as I try and get back to normal as possible.

Thank you to everyone that reached out to me and posted kind words. I read them all and really appreciated them.

My dad did pass away last week. Even though he was sick for two years, the end was actually so quick and still a shock even though we've know for awhile that it was inevitable.

His service is not until this Thursday so my brother and I have been busy with planning the service so my mom doesn't have to. I am also hosting the memorial service/celebration of life at my house after the service so there is a lot to do. It's been good keeping busy but I might just go crazy with all the people in my house!

If there is any silver lining it's that time has been flying by since I've been so preoccupied that all my significant dates are fast approaching. My pre-op testing is tomorrow morning. Last appt with the surgeon is Aug 1. And I'll have my surgery fully paid this week. Then its just surviving the 1 week liquid diet.

After all this is over, I'll start catching up and adding all the new people and dates to the member list. But not before I have a lot to drink this weekend!

@Ylime my condolences go out to you and your family. So very sorry to hear about your loss.
I also grieve with you but he left a wonderful legacy to the world in you, his daughter. Always will be here for you! Frustr8

Hi I am new, I have a surgery date for Aug 7th, just got my approval the other day, now I am questioning everything, is that normal? Is it nerves?

@ylime so sorry for your loss! My condolences and thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Hey guys, checking in!

Monday was my day for paperwork to get submitted to insurance... and they approved it same day! My surgery has been confirmed for August 8th, and today is my second day of a two week pre-op diet. I am STARVING, and this is despite the fact that I can have certain solid foods as a snack between my liquid breakfast and lunch. I really feel for those of you who have to go 100% liquid D:

It is nerves because now, it is real. Remember your goals (my surgery is the day before yours). Feeling better about yourself, becoming healthier, and any other personal goals should be the long term. Yes, it is real now. Nerves are natural.

I was told the hunger subsides after first few days to a week. I am on day 4. We can both do this!

Thanks, I am not on liquid yet, just a high protein, no sugar then 3 days before surgery, a liquid only. I am not hungry but just feel like I cannot leave the house because of eating and planning, I think thats where my nerves are kicking in.That this will be the new norm planning, lol. I am getting gastric but I still go back and forth with sleeve, such a hard choice.

I find it so interesting how different the preop process is for each person. I keep seeing people talking about having seen the surgeon and stuff early on. The process for me is the opposite. I don't even get a 1 on 1 appt with the surgeon until the very end when everything else is completed.
I notice that you. I am I tha same boat .. until the end of everything

And that's the way it turned out for me, I met Dr Needleman the same day I was assigned my surgery date. Next time I see, him, will be in the OR when they wheel,me in. I'm silly, but I ,wish I could walk in instead of,being passively pushed. I am romanicizing it but I'd like to show I'm not being forced. or such but making this choice actively to have it done.???
