  1. Ugh so at work on Day 2 of pre-op diet. I had some shredded red cabbage with lemon juice and a small packet of salt, a diet peach snapple, and 2 shakes so far. Also a decaf iced coffee with almond milk and fake sweetener. I feel like.... I have a flu. But it is day 1.5. I should not have the "keto flu" already and wonder if it is just my anxiety poking me and making little things turn into stressful things which trigger my migraines and pain. When I did my OG sleeve in 2018, I was off from work during this 2 week preop. Going to work while doing this is so much extra. Thankfully I am now in an office vs field job but still. My SADI-S is the 26th and all I can think about is I want food, soup, hearty. Choking down cabbage and lemon (which I do actually like!) makes me gag.
  2. Ooo you are Lenox Hill. Can you tell me what made you go there over others? I am just a habit person so I stuck with NYU but I heard great things and see you are doing DS. I am july 26th the SADI-S at NYU Brooklyn with Dr. Fareed Cheema and my original Sleeve was Dr. Bradley Scheck from NYU.
  3. I am in NYC and Dr. Cheema from NYU Langone Brooklyn does the SADI. You may want to ask about the SADI-S rather than the DS. The DS is old and complex. The current form of it, post-sleeve, is the SADI (Single anastomosis duodeno–ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy) and you may get a better response in Seattle asking that.
  4. I like Ensure Max Protein for my full liquids. I am July 26th for the SADI (from my 2018 sleeve) so I go on the 2 week July 12th. My prior sleeve post op was rough because I am sensitive to gas. I was campbell tomato soup, chicken broth from Swanson, and gatorade. I did try crystal light- every flavor and I was dehydrated through the first month. I just could not get protein and liquids into my sleeve. For my SADI... I hope I can drink after. I have multiple flavors of protein shakes ready and beef/chicken broths ready to go. I think because I experienced a major stomach surgery before, I kind of know what to expect. And I expect gas, pain, and poop (TMI? sorry!). You have to get in liquids. If you do stock up prior, get a variety of flavors and brands. Buy the store brand and find coupons. If you have food stamps, a lot of this is covered. Go for liquids that have protein like broths but also basic soups. If you have a favorite flavor right now, get it. If it is something you know you will drink, it is better to have on hand. I knew I would drink gatorade and not surprised I balked at the crystal light. Hope this helped some?
  5. Hi! I had the sleeve at NYU with Dr. Shweck in Aug 2018. I got my gallbladder removed May 2019. As I did regain 80 lbs, I consulted again (as recommended by my vascular doctor). I went to NYU Brooklyn and spoke to Dr. Cheema and he recommended the SADI over Gastric Bypass because I am a smoker and there can be a high rate of ulcers. I am scheduled for 07/26/23 and I am very high risk so being admitted day before. Dr. Cheema and the endoscopy both showed my sleeve was perfect still and there was absolutely no need to redo it. The restriction is still there, just now we are adding the malabsorption which is typically stage 2 anyways. As per Dr. Cheema, the SADI is a safer and newer version of the DS with slightly less intestine bypassed and it connects the sleeve directly. With the DS, there are 2 cuts for connections created to bypass. With the sleeve done already, it is much less of a risk and still goes straight to malabsorption. You will need high A D E K vitamins plus iron and calcium and B12. You will experience different symptoms then just the sleeve such as increased dumping likely for sugar and fat. You will still be restricted to eat small meals and you will still need a ton of protein. Until I get mine, that is the best I can tell you. Look up different articles on DS and SADI and ask your doctor specifically which procedure is being done and what are the cons. Good luck!
  6. Well I guess I came back to the forum so may as well open with this: Surgery was 8/6/18, I am down from 350 lbs (pre-liquid diet) to 260 lbs (plateau maybe?). I am able to walk more but still do not exercise. If I eat carbs, I am hungry in 2 hours. Nighttime snacking is a thing- nuts nearby help. I get complemented about "how narrow I look" and I blush and hate it. Makes me wonder if it is a negative comment on my past self. I returned to mental health treatment because both positive and negative stress- extra support on journey too. I eat more and sometimes push it... even when I know I shouldn't. Getting tested for IBS/Crohn's/Ulcerative Colitis. Hoping it is not something worse. Need to drop 10 more lbs for a colonoscopy... I AM 33 YEARS OLD I guess overall I am good. Still low energy but have energy at times. Definitely eat a lot less. Smaller sizes are being worn. I do feel better about myself. Surgery cannot fix all your issues. But I shall take this about 90 lbs of weight loss and say to those who are thinking it may fix it all something one of my doctors said. "You had the surgery. It is like being given a winning lotto ticket. It is now up to you to cash it in". I am trying to cash it in. Obstacles are present, mostly my brain, but I will cash it in.
  7. I think I am in the same boat as everyone 1 week post-op.... I gulp liquids (but still dehydrated because I don't do it enough). But sometimes I have pain because I think I have too much and other times, none. I did sneak a small snack cup of hummus and it felt like a liquid going down but fuller, I guess would be the word? I am scared because I didn't lose in the first week and I am way under protein, but I also am having trouble making myself drink soups and what not slowly. My VSG may stretch this is so bad! But I am not hungry and definitely am not overeating....
  8. Just an update 1 week out. I gulp my liquids and am dehydrated which is my fault. I am at my 1st post op check in. And I lost 0. After 70% of my stomach was removed I lost nothing. I am eating less but also way under protien and way under liquids. I am having soups because I cant take much more cold things. I don't know anymore. What if I went through it all for nothing. What if I can't change my habits.
  9. Oh no the pain is mostly away 1 week later. Incision area muscle pain yes...because I am coughing. It is major surgery. But you can get through it.
  10. If only my stomach wasnt sending me waves of pain/nausea and I stopped coughing, I could work on my mind. Does anyone else taking liquid tylenol have it hurt them?
  11. Thanks guys, I just wish now that I had someone I could vent to. And when it comes down to it, I am hurt by my Mom who said she was doing the diet with me (she is diabetic so not recommended but she wanted to). I know this is mental more than physical the cravings. I know this is my life now. But as I sit here and drink Big Win Chicken Broth, all I want is pureed next steps because just liquid is not me.
  12. I am so unhappy right now. Yesterday, as we did not have Campbell's tomato soup, I was having progresso tomato-basil soup. it was fine and tasted great with some flash pain while hitting stomach but last night had a lot of stomach pain which continued through today. Made no sense, came in waves, no food in stomach (6 hours later) when this started. Also, the additional pain was no where near incisions but in mid stomach area. Today, I feel blah and run down. Throughout all this all I want is pureed food. Or different soups. and it DOES NOT HELP when your mother, the person you are with, constantly is making 1 or 2 meals daily (pot pie or ravioli) which she knows you love and you can SMELL. Even after you ask her REPEATEDLY to stop, eat cold food, go out, do ANYTHING ELSE. I regret it all. I don't want this anymore. Between the pain, and my brain, and the fact I can't even eat pureed foods for another week, and I am so tired, and feel trapped, and feel like no one in my life cares, I don't want this anymore.
  13. Nighttime med time. Found myself thirsty today. Had a problem drinking the water a little too fast. My stomach likes to give a sharp pain to this. Still gassy even with walking. Still in muscle pain and coughing pain. But the incisions feel okay when left alone.
  14. Day 2 for me too. Was 1.5 days in hospital, same surgery date, same surgery! I still have gas pain and my stomach muscles hurt. I have trouble going from lying to sitting position to get out of bed and weirdly my calves are tight. The first bowel movement... just had that. I thought I was farting out the gas. Oops? I prefer sitting to laying. I try to walk a little each hour. Chicken broth did help move more gas than my milked down protein shake.... and felt better in my stomach. But ices also felt nice. It just depended if I took my medicine right before that or not. My stomach is definitely still settling.
  15. Had my surgery on the 6th. Despite a cheat day due to stress, my liver was small and pretty clean. But let me tell you... GAS PAINS ARE NO JOKE. Was in hospital until about 5pm today, pain is not fully gone but alas, was not prescribed anything but liquid tylenol, anti-nausea, and gabapentin. Pharmacy is out of the anti spasmodic. Now that I am home and had some deep sleep, the coughing has started. With 5 incisions and gas pain and nausea, this is hell. All well, since I pretty much have not been drinking, going to try to now. Maybe that plus the meds will also quiet the cough some. Best to all!
  16. It is more the cough I am worried about. Likely have mild COPD so have a chronic cough... but if there is wheezing that is new and may postpone!!! I guess I can chug fluids until 6pm which is when I have to go nil by mouth but... I don't know!
  17. Did anyone else get sick literally right before their surgery date? I am TOMORROW but I think I caught a bug when I went for pre-op testing (it was at the hospital) so didnt show symptoms until Thursday. All that is left is an earache (ow) and cough which is chronic for me....but I am worried they will cancel tomorrow morning! I am already off work, and would need a note to return at least a week before, and have been on shots (expensive). I don't think I can handle if they postpone!
  18. Mmmm....august 6th for me. And despite doing well on 1st week of preop diet...I am struggling. Hard.
