What's wrong with a straw?

Recommended Posts

I asked my nutritionist the saaaaame thing. She explained that they really don't want us drinking through a straw right after surgery, as it allows more air into your tummy. However, once you're completely healed, straws are fine! She assured me that the air from using straws will NOT stretch your stomach, although carbonation WILL and is still a no-no for life.
Happy sucking! [emoji4]

[emoji24][emoji24]are you telling me i can never drink seltzer Water again after surgery???

I was told straws are fine as long as you are not in pain so if it hurts to use one then don't if not your fine

They remove most of the stretchy part of your stomach. It might expand slightly and temporarily with carbonation or a straw but it isn’t permanent. It seems like a scare tactic like my surgeon’s tale about a guy from up north who ate a burrito on his way home and died. Next time it was magically a burger. I called him on it and he fessed up. Besides, I burp up carbonation. Burp like a drunken sailor and it’s gone.

My doctor actually recommended to use a straw to take smaller sips. I avoided it because I had seen all the warnings about straws. But Ifind I can drink more because I don't accidentally gulp, and haven't had any pain with using a straw.

I've avoided all carbonation. I just find it super annoying that one of the reasons doctors give to avoid carbonated drinks is that they are too sugary. It's constantly cited as a reason, as if sugar free carbonated drinks don't exist.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
