12 Days Post-Op Gastric Sleeve and Totally Regretting it

I had a sleeve done on Feb. 26th. I came home 3 days later. Once I was home and off my pain meds, I started with diarrhea all day long. The diluted Gatorade that I drank all day just ran right through me. Because of this, I was not well when I went in for my one-week post-op appointment. I had a really low blood pressure and really high heart rate. My doctor said it was because I was dehydrated from all the diarrhea. He did not approve me to move onto protein shakes or my vitamins, and I was not approved to go back to work. He wanted me to stop my blood pressure meds and to just keep sticking with diluted Gatorade and broth. I wasn't to see him 2 days later (which was yesterday).

Yesterday, my blood pressure is still low, heart rate is still high. I still have diarrhea all the time. I'm still not allowed to go back to work. I'm a teacher and I really can't take anymore time off. I've had IBS my whole life so I was always worried about that before having this surgery, but my surgeon said I would be fine. Its only going to be worse when I start the protein shakes as they made me sick before the surgery. I wish I never did this. I feel like I'm never going to be able to go back to work (we only get 7 sick days a year so all of this time is unpaid) or leave the house again because of the diarrhea. Will this get better?

Dr. Gandsas said not to have any protein shakes yet. Even without them, I'm still running to the bathroom all day so I don't think it's an intolerance to lactose.

Initially my doctor didn't want to take anything like Imodium because he said your body is telling you something by wanting to get rid of everything. Maybe he thought I had caught a bug?? I called on Friday and he said I could go ahead and take something for the diarrhea, but it didn't help at all. Yesterday I started the probiotic and I am happy to announce...

i took a solid poo today!!! :DHaven't had diarrhea all day! Sorry for the gross details, but I thought you guys would want to know. I think it's the probiotics. I actually left the house and did a bit of shopping!

Not sure why my weight hasn't dropped in like 5 days, but I'm just SO happy to hopefully be back on the right track. Thanks for listening about my toilet troubles!

Don't worry about the weight. Your body is just getting used to it's new normal. Stalls and plateaus are a normal part of the process, you will start losing again.

As for the Protein Shakes try the GNC Lean 25 shakes. I could not tolerate most shakes after surgery but these ones were tolerable and they come in so many flavors. They are also thinner consistence than the Premier which is what I drank pre surgery.

I'm very happy for you! Must be a huge relief.

Someone may have already stated this but if you add the unflavored protein powder to broth, the temperature of the broth can't be too hot or it will change consistency or "curdle", as you noted...Try adding it to warm broth, not hot...I didn't have a thermometer with me when I tried it. I just did equal parts cold water to hot water and it seemed to be fine.

Yay! I hope they help! I'm gonna look for those myself now.

How are you feeling Arabian78? All good now?

I wish I could say I'm doing better, but I noticed on Wednesday that I basically stopped peeing. I'm drinking 64 ounces a day so I should be peeing a lot. I was only going once a day. I called my surgeon's office Friday morning, but they don't see patients on M, W, or F because he's in surgery so they told me to go to the ER. I did and it turns out I have a bad bladder infection, probably from the catheter I had while in the hospital. So they put me on an antibiotic and now the diarrhea is back :(
