Throwing up Bile (Middle of Night)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So i am 3 weeks post op today! Sleeved 2/8! This morning around 4 AM i woke up out of no where & had to throw up, & it was so disgusting. It was definitely all bile (Yellow in Color). Not sure what that was about but i am calling Surgeon today..does anyone have an idea what might that mean?

Sounds like a bile reflux alright, did you get a hold of your surgeon or his office? See that's one of the few benefits to RnY, bile can't swim upstream through our intestinal loops. I would have thought though,it would be rare for your problem unless there's a blockage downstream. Wonder if anyone else in BP has had it?

It's just acid reflux. Try sleeping propped up a little at night and ask for a PPI, omeprazole or prilosec, sometimes it's tricky finding the right one. Sometimes rapid weight loss cause this and your gall bladder can act up with rapid weight loss as well.

Im 15 days post op and still in stage 1 hydration. It took me a week of throwing up yellow/green bad tasting vile -bile.That later turned to chocolate colored bile. Now we are at the point to where if my tolerence doesnt subside, then it's obviously stricture which means my surgeon will perform endoscopic dilatation. So, after my worst day yesterday, my nurse told me to avoid all medications, avoid creamy fat free Soups, avoid broth and drink a Protein Shake over the course of 3 hours mixed with Water instead of milk. Sip ice water 40 minutes before and one hour after each sippage. Guess what, it worked! no nausea, no throw up. I think my problem was trying to go automatically from Stage 1, to Stage 2, and now Stage 3. My body says , nope, not ready yet ..So as far as throwing up bile, today is the first comfortable day in my post op surgery. My diet for the next 2 weeks will consist of morning, omeprazole and sips of a juice glass with sonic ice and natural apple juice, a Protein shake with water, and a couple of sugar free tropical popsicles.. By the way the protein shake I put in the freezer for and hour and it really helps with the taste kinda like a milkshake....KINDA!! You may just need to stay in the hydration stage for a couple of weeks. We forget sometimes this process is going to take up to 24 months. Good Luck to you. Surgery day weight 368.8 on February 15 2018. current weight March 1 2018, 338.7

I meet with the Surgeon Monday.. he wants me to try this first.. so far today, removing the kinda normal stuff,i.e. creamy chicken Soup, slimfast with milk, cream of wheat etc, etc. and just stick with the high Protein Shake, sugar free popsicles and sonic crushed ice with purified Water, today was a great day.. no nausea or vomiting or acid reflux..

I've never thrown up bile post-surgery, not even when I've thrown up from eating too much, or eating the wrong thing, etc. Does your surgeon have you on anti-gallstones medication? I'm on Actigall for the first 3 months post-surgery (about one more month to go and then that's one more medication I can kiss goodbye!)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
