Favorite Snack Hacks for the sweet and salty

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow VSGers,
What do you make for yourself to satisfy a sweet or salty craving? like to get a few other ideas.
I make a Gummy candy by mixing a sugar free Jello packet, a packet of Gelatin and 1/2 cup Water, boil until mixed and pour into a ice cube tray. About 1/2 an hour in the freezer then to the fridge. They’re just like Gummy bears! If I eat ALL of the ones I make, it’s 90 calories and 16 grams of protien!!

I make my own snack mix. 60% Ghirardelli cocao chocoate chips, low fat & sugar vanilla granola, yellow raisins, mini tricuits and blue diamond sea salt almonds.

For salty crunchy chip cravings, my go-to is Harvest Snaps Snapea Crisps. They're made of green peas! My favorite flavors are black pepper and wasabi ranch. 120 calories and 5g of protein....and you feel like you've had something really naughty:)

When my sweet tooth strikes....it wants carbs. Horrible carbs.

So, I trick myself with Protein Pancakes:

1/2 cup old fashioned oats

1 egg, plus 1 egg white

1T Water or almond milk

1/4 cup cottage cheese

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Dash of salt

teaspoon vanilla

Blend this in the food processor.

It will handily make 6 little pancakes or a HUGE waffle.

Full recipe 284 Calories 22g of protein

Half recipe 142 Calories 11g of protein

I make these ahead and put them in the freezer.

I can't eat more than half of this recipe at a time. I put strawberries with splenda on them and it feels like comfort food.....and can prevent a disaster:)

Some good ideas. For sweet hard candy works or a small piece of chocolate. For salty I've been eating cashews. The key is to control the portion, so I pre-portion them in 1 oz portions in little baggies.

For salty I usually go to almonds with sea salt or some flavor of beef Jerky.

For sweet I usually just eat a solid piece of dark chocolate.

Just not feeling well enough to get creative like some of you. I can hardly wait to get out in my kitchen and make things again. I keep things so plain and simple, which works for me at the moment.

I munch on Blue Diamond lightly salted roasted almonds, yum!

When I want sweet and salty together, I eat an Atkin's Harvest Trail chocolate Almond Salted Caramel bar...oh man, I friggin' love those! Anyone else tried them? Low carb, low sugar and 8 grams Protein, but a little pricey.

Oh, how I can't wait for the general diet. One short week from tomorrow!

Between the pre-surgery shakes and the post-surgery shakes, I don't have much of a sweet tooth these days, and I get all the salt I need from string cheese.

How soon after surgery did you guys start eating nuts? I’ve gotten conflicting information.

My nutritionist just said “when you start solid food” and didn’t really understand why I was asking. Some books I’ve read have said 6 months, others say never, as tiny hard pieces can get lodged in the staple line (never seems a little drastic to me, but what do I know).

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
