Favorite Snack Hacks for the sweet and salty

Recommended Posts

The only reference to staple line issues i've ever seen....are tiny hard seeds like strawberry seeds very early on in healing. We don't eat strawberrries before six weeks for this reason in my group. (A lot of people are tempted to put them in a smoothy in the pureed stage...and people react poorly to this because the seed grit is irritating...nausea,vomiting, etc)

Nuts don't work for some people, but work well for others. My group advises to wait until six weeks to try reintroducing them...and to do so carefully. Chew them well, and try a small amount at first to see if you get any unpleasant symptoms.

I have no problem with nuts:) Really glad about this, cause I eat a lot of them:)

How soon after surgery did you guys start eating nuts? I’ve gotten conflicting information.

My nutritionist just said “when you start solid food” and didn’t really understand why I was asking. Some books I’ve read have said 6 months, others say never, as tiny hard pieces can get lodged in the staple line (never seems a little drastic to me, but what do I know).

Confusingly, I can have nuts starting at 6 weeks, but then it's listed later in my binder as food I could have trouble with later. Nuts are just difficult to digest in general and basically any nut that isn't an almond is a little carb bomb.

The thing that satisfies my sweet craving is Halo Top ice cream, which is just the business, man.

It's between 60-90 calories a serving with about 14-15 grams of carbs. And it's actually good. A pint of that will give four servings, which I tend to space out over a few weeks.

For salty, I make parmesan crisps in my microwave... 1 to 3 minutes depending on how many I want and they are crunchy like chips and so delicious!

I had no idea you could make cheese crisps in the microwave! I'll be trying those weekend. Thanks for that tip!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
