Hello! I am 4 days out from being sleeved and now that I am transitioning to pureed foods per my doctors orders, I am finding I get massive sharp pains when I eat. It comes in a wave and almost feels like a gas bubble moving it's way up. It's mainly localized under my left breastbone. I'm assuming it's either gas or my stomach moving that is causing the pain. Have others experienced this as well??

I am 9 days postop and tonight I had an episode of really sharp pain I. My gut. Sorry for the TMI, but I had diarrhea and then started throwing up and dry heaving. I’m thankful I have my post surgery follow up tomorrow.

I called my surgeon's office and spoke to one of the nurses. They suggested it was my tummy telling me I was moving too fast whether it was eating too fast, eating too much at one bite, or eating too heavy of a food. I am going back to liquids for 24 hours to see if that settles things down any.

Good luck tomorrow Maggie. Let me know how you make out.

I am having the same problem when I drink Water and gulp it. Or even when I eat I have pain underneath my left breast. That is when I just go for a simple walk to help it and every night I have to take GAX X because i also have pain in my back.

I had the same issue. I realized I was taking to big of a bite or swallowing too fast. Now, I treat it as my tummy telling me I'm full; I get the same feeling when I've finished a meal. I also start burping and now I even have a runny nose. So weird!

How big of a "bite" are you taking? My doc's office gave us all a super tiny baby spoon to use after surgery. Our instructions were to take a bite and then wait a bit. Basically should have taken us about 20-30 minutes to eat a food during the pureed stage.

It also drives me nuts that doctors are all so different. Lot of us couldn't hit the pureed stage until at least 2 weeks out.

I think this was exactly my issue! I went to full liquids for 24 hours then moved back to purees and almost just licked my spoon and put the spoon down between bites for a couple minutes. Hard to master but it has definitely helped. I've taken too big a bit or eaten too fast a couple of times since and as soon as I feel a twinge, the spoon goes down and I walk away. :)

It takes some time to sort it out. Some times by the time you feel that full sensation it's too late. Here I am a year out and last night I must have taken too big of a bite at some point during dinner. A few minutes later I was in the bathroom trying not to get sick. The moment passed thankfully but it can be oh so miserable.

It can be maddening when it takes half an hour to eat an egg but as you progress it won't be near as difficult.

Using baby spoons definitely helps early on. Smaller bites and slow down. Pause between bites - like 30 secs to a minute depending on the consistency of what you are eating. More solid or thicker stuff eat much slower. It is especially hard when you are excited to eat something after it has been so long. Even broth can be painful that early when eaten with a big spoon.

I’m 5 days post-op and having the same pain.... glad I’m not alone! Lol. I’m on full liquid now and for the most part, every time I drink something, especially if I take a big gulp (not even that big) I get the pain. I’m attributing it to gas or my stomach getting used to the liquids. It has gotten a little better as the days have gone by but it’s definitely scared me from taking more liquids in, which isn’t good as I’m trying to get Protein in so I’m not tired. Will definitely be asking my doc but don’t see him until a week from today and haven’t felt it was that bad to give him a call but we’ll see. Definitely interested to see what others say!

For the first week I used the medicine measuring cups they gave me at the hospital. They gave me a stack to come home with. I used those to measure every drink and broth I consumed every 15 minutes. It was tedious yes, but it helped me recover quickly, and kept my large sipping tendencies at bay.

I’m 2 weeks post-op and the first week I also used the medicine cups for my liquids (water & shakes) to get a better feel for proper sipping. Now I can drink from the bottle or glass with no problem because I know how big a sip to take.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
