Weight loss depression

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just had a 2 week post-op appointment, and I’ve only lost 4kgs. My surgeon assured me that it’s fine and I’m on track, but it feels so small.

Also, the 4kgs is from our first appointment prior to the two week pre-op diet.

I’ve lost more in a few days on the HCG diet and this is the first time I’m now regretting the surgery.

I’m eating less than on the HCG diet, and I have been walking. I don’t know why it’s taking so long. I’ve also been on antibiotics because I developed a small infection.

4kgs in pounds is about 8.8lbs.

Any advice?

That is not bad for the first 2 weeks. In the beginning, I think the body needs to settle in from the operation, Fluid shifting, etc. Feeling sad/depressed is something a lot of us have felt, I think the whole process is just mentally and physically draining, hormonal shifts, all that.

Please know you are not alone, just keep moving forward and trust the process.

Also you are a lower weight, you will not lose as quickly as someone 250 plus pounds. You will get there.

It is hard for us to be patient I know. I was upset I only lost 14 pounds in two weeks but when is the last time that has happened? Yeah, never.

Thank you, means so much to hear that. I just don’t even want to eat right now, I feel like a failure. I mean in hospital I didn’t even have anything to eat for 2 days. I’ve only just moved onto cream Soups and can’t even eat a tin in a whole day. Before was broths. I feel like it can’t be right. I’ll just give it time. Hopefully once I get into the gym more will start coming off.

Thank you again.

Thank you too Kim,

My surgeon said the same, it’s because I don’t have as much to lose... still, I’m very jealous of your 14lbs right now... that’s double my loss [emoji17]

Keep walking, an extra hundred steps here and there adds up.

Make your Protein goals to protect your heart and your muscles from wasting.

Try to get those healthy calories in. The closer you can come to eating a normal calorie budget with some good activity, the better your metabolic reset will be. I've had great luck with oat meal and cream of wheat with almond milk. Whipped greek yogurt is another favorite that goes down super easy.

You're doing great! keep working:) I believe in you.

Try not to get down, your body is still in a bit of shock. The weight will start coming off and 8 lb is pretty good for someone starting at a lower BMI. Hang in there, stick to your program and try not to dwell on the scale ( i know its hard)... There is also a bit of an emotional roller coaster you will likely go through the first month, crazy happy, crazy sad and everything in between... it gets better, i promise. :)

I was exactly the same and it is so disheartening especially when your doing everything right, But from what I read our bodies are trying so desperately to hold on to everything because it doesn’t know when it will be fed again, Soon your body will adapt and it will start falling off! Trust the process, Oh and take measurements because even when the scale isn’t moving I bet the inches will be getting smaller. Good luck :)

Thank you all so much for all your kind words and encouragement. I feel like it can’t be right, because I can see from my clothes I’ve lost weight.

I have just upped my walking, I’m not allowed to start anything too intense yet. I’ll cut out my coffee and teas as the milk is probably not good, and go lighter on the creamy milk.

I’m ready to get this. I need to watch everything I do still I guess, I just assumed it would fall off because I’m eating so little - and I’ll start my Protein replacements. I feel like protein should only start when I’m working out at the gym though? Thanks so much for your help :) xx

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
