Eating TOO LITTLE can cause a weight loss stall!

Oh! I didn’t mean to concern you or anyone else.

I think it’s a temporary thing. I’ve googled and made my own post a few days ago about taste. And it seems like other people had some taste or smell changes but that it went back after a few weeks or some time.

Everyone responds differently to surgery and it seems like many other people eat things just fine. I was already very sensitive to smells before surgery. So maybe that’s something to do with it?

I would take that with a grain of salt. I mean yeah I guess it's possible in some cases, but I didn't get above 500-600 calories for at least six months. No stalls, no nutritional deficiencies or bone loss. Muscle gain. I met my Protein goals starting week 3. I started running week 4. I ran a half marathon month 8. Yoga 4x per week.

And now at four years out I eat well over 2000 calories per day to maintain at a size 4.

Yes, that’s absolutely right! I wish this other lady saw this post earlier in the week that had the same issue only eating 500cals but left the forum after being berated and accused of lying... the body goes into starvation mode and needs food to boost the metabolism - this is basic fitness knowledge and I’m surprised so many don’t realise that your body needs fuel to build muscle and burn fat or you will just lose muscle and end up a skinny fat person.

Let me clarify... everyone should listen to their team. You hired them because you trust them!

But if your team encourages very low calorie, trust them! Because while it's possible that the OP's nutritionist sees that in her practice, there isn't any science that shows that definitively. And many medical professionals see something different in their practice.

If you want to try to shake things up and try someone else's advice because your teams advise isn't working for you, by all means do so! But don't take the title of the thread here or even the advice from the OP as fact. It's one persons opinion and not the opinion of the medical professionals you hired.

Trust the people you hired or do your own research and experimentation.

Coco wheats is that a Cereal? I'm new here. Surgery was 4 days ago.

Yes, Coco Wheats is a hot cereal.....like Cream of Wheat with Cocoa in it. It's 110 calories a serving, only I can only do half a serving thinned with about a third of a protien shake. Still comes out to about 100 calories. Good stuff!

You can get coco wheats anywhere:) Very common item, sold in a box by the oatmeal and other hot cereals. But make sure your plan allows it and your dietitian approves.

I have to say this post is so true! I am now just over a year out from being sleeved. I was threatened a couple times to have a feeding tube inserted due to only eating 100 to 300 calories a day at 6 months to 9 months out. I got better and didn't have to get the feeding tube. However, I still only get about 700 calories a day. My starting weight was 257lbs and I am now but 144lbs. I am currently in a stall but still working on it with my team. We are slowly getting there! Definitely want to listen to them!

Your nut sounds very much like my NUT. She wanted me up to 1000 calories as soon as possible and to be getting 1200 calories by 6 months out. She also is very big on getting a balanced diet that includes carbs, starches and lots of veggies. She also stated after about 9 months out she wanted me to move to a more balanced diet and less of a Protein first diet.

This is actually true, your body will store the energy you ingest in anticipation of not getting enough food in the future, like a hibernation mode of sorts. Now add in exercise and you will stunt your progress even further...The average female needs 1500 to 1800 calories a day in general and the average male 2000 to 2500 a day. Now when you exercise you need even more.

The trick is to find the proper amount and type of calories for your body type and daily routine...

700 is dangerously low!!!! Seriously...Up it to 1200 and you'll break your stall and feel healthier.

That's been something we are trying to work on. I have never been much of an eater. I even had to verify with my surgeon if the surgery was right for me because of it.

I'm a little more than 8 months out from my bypass/hernia repair and have lost about 95 pounds. I've had a few long stalls (like 2 months) and both times the NUT told me to increase to 800 on the first one and 1000 on the second one and 1200 on the third one and I started losing again and broke the stall. Its so counterintuitive for sure but I am a big believer in eating more to lose. Good luck!

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
