stretching out the sleeve

Recommended Posts

im constantly worried that eating more when i feel like i can will stretch out my sleeve. im constantly stopping myself from eating more and sometimes wondering if im eating enough. does that make sense? does anyone have any knowledge on how the sleeve can stretch. is it something that easily happens??? im following my doctors plans but sometimes still terrified

You have already stretched it, you are screwed.
All kidding aside, I don’t know.
I am pretty sure I stretched mine.
After 9 years of continuous sobriety, I relapsed on weed. I got f*cking baked and ate like a hog two days in a row and then thanksgiving.
I had heard about alcoholics and addicts relapsing after WLS and I didn’t take it seriously.
Back to counting the days of sobriety.

You just had surgery in October, your not even settled in to a normal diet yet, relax a little..When I was 1 month out I could barely eat 2 oz of tuna and 1 oz of hummus. You're going to be able to eat more food at 3 to 6 months out and feel more normal, but you will feel the restriction compared to your old stomach. I eat about 1800 to 2200 calories a day now, where at 1 month I was at about 800 a day. The key is to increase your activity and quality of foods as you progress.

And from what I read you really dont stretch your sleeve out per say, you kind of rewire your brain to its new stomach. Eating crappy foods will get you fat, eating lean and green will keep you fit.

How would you know your eating to much ?

It's very simple.

Weighing your food.

Then eating more than you weigh.( If say your team say eat under 4 ounces)

That is how you know.

You shouldn't eat more if you feel you can. It's a sure thing your fine if you don't go over your recommendation.

If you have no recommendation Protein first veggies second you will be fine

1 scrambled egg and 1/2 slice whole wheat toast for Breakfast or a Premier Protein shake and then i try to have a lean Protein for lunch and dinner and switch up the sides. but i just dont ever feel full or stuffed. i stop my self from eating when i feel like i could eat much more. i haven't had any issues with any food. even drinking Water makes me nervous. i stop myself from drinking fast cause if i dont think about it i can drink a bottle of water really fast like i used to before surgery and i know thats not good.

no of dense Protein. fish, shrimp etc are easier. chicken and beef are rougher. so i'm trying to stick to those. Liquid Protein i can tolerate more. i use the Premier Protein shakes and i have to really time myself cause i can drink it very quickly and i dont wan to.

the weight is coming off but just nervous how well i have handled everything. im very lucky but want this to work so im just trying to be cautious.

My nutritionist says to eat no more than a deck of cards worth of lean Protein then eat non-starchy veggies if there is room at each meal. Stop eating when satisfied not full.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
