Question for the ladies

Recommended Posts

Ok post-op ladies. I have a small situation and I'm wondering if it's happened to anyone else.

Up until surgery, my periods were regular. Once a month, lasting for less than 5 days. I'm 6 weeks post-op now and have my period for the second time this month. My last one ended 2 weeks ago. Is this a normal thing? If so, please tell me it won't be a regular/long-term thing? My hormones are pretty monstrous.

It's really common for periods to get wacky postop. They should settle down by 6 months post. If things get too crazy you can always ask your doc.

Yes, your hormones change a lot when losing a lot of weight. My periods have actually become regular and now because of my changing hormones, I am having cramps I haven't had since I was really young. I agree I would notify your DR.

I didn’t have mine for probably 8 years because I take my birth control pills with no break. The day before surgery I sort of got it but after surgery, while in the hospital I fully did. Even while still on birth control. I haven’t had it since (knock on wood) so I think it’s the emotional stress, stress on your body and overall trauma.

My doctor actually said stop hormones a few weeks before surgery and for like 2-3ish months after. I ignored because I became active immediately.

I believe estrogen is stored in fat, so as we lose fat, our body releases estrogen. And likely makes us a little crazy :)

Mine went crazy after surgery. My periods were super long and heavy. I even went to my GYN about 4 months post op who was going to put me on Mirena to try and regulate (not currently on hormonal birth control) but I decided to wait it out a few months and thankfully about 7-8 months post op I started to regulate.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
