November sleevers here

YES! Right inbetween my breasts. It's like my stomach is seizing up. We all think our stomach is the middle of our body but it's actually up higher. It does that when I've gone a long time without drinking Protein (what I call eating LOL) or liquids. Like middle of the night when you've been sleeping 5 hours. A few nights I actually got up and took some sips of Protein Drink or had some yogurt. My nurse told me not to do that. But jeez...there have been times in my life before surgery where I have been STARVING during the night and couldn't sleep till I had a yogurt or oatmeal or toast or something. I feel it's no different.

Yes! My pain is in the same area! I bought some protein Water today I'm going to start drinking that, maybe it'll help. It's so weird. But I agree, the only thing that makes it go away is drinking something. I basically drank an additional 12 oz in my sleep last night.

I had a laughing fit the other day that put me into tears it was so painful. I woke up this morning with a jabbing, burning pain in my left side that wasn't like the typical soreness. Called my surgeon today and he said I may have pinched a nerve. Recommended using a heating pad so I'm doing that now. Didn't stop me from my walk or drinking liquids so it's not THAT bad but I'm so annoyed! Just another thing that needs to heal now. Anyone else have that?

My big incision feels like it's burning, but if I fan it with my shirt pulled up it's fine. Icing it seems to help too. The soreness is finally coming down to a nice low rumble which is beginning to feel better.

I don't have any of this at all. BUT...I just asked my husband if he could help me with the stuff left over from the taping on the bandages. I think I may be allergic to it. I have a pretty good rash going on and one started. All in the area where the tape glue is. It's my biggest incision..the one they took the stomach out from and put the drain in. So it had a bigger bandage on it. The other ones just had glue. I just can't see it good enough to get on my own. I want to try to get that excess glue off before I'm a big huge rash!!! Only an itching now an again on a healing smaller incision. No pain, no burning. Keep track of that burning esp if it changes color or oozes.

I've been watching the colours of my incisions. They're all a nice healthy pink. None of them are angry red or oozy, I just figured I have some nerves in there that are still kinda upset and are telling me all about it. But I will mention it to the team when I go in for my 2 week check up on Monday.

It's those little reminders that keep us from messing up.. but only if we listen.

No that is not normal. You are 7 days out and haven't walked? You should be able to walk a couple of hours after surgery and get up every hour or so during the day to do laps around your house. It helps with the pain, gas and with preventing blood clots. If I was you I would call my doctors office. Usually they have a nurse on call to answer your questions. Make sure you have someone help you walk if you haven't been up and about. Are you eating? I did not feel like walking, but the more I walked the better I felt. If I just laid down too long without getting up it really made me more weak and tired. The days I got the least amount of activity the worse I felt.

I am walking a little bit no way near the miles I see people walking on this forum. Hopefully it will get better. My tongue is all white probably from a bit of dehydration!

I had my sleeve on the 10th the first two day very nauseous and barely walked to the bathroom. But today I walked 1,617 steps (using a fit bit to help keep track of my progress) . You definitely need to stay hydrated first and try to just push yourself a little more each day even if it’s just walking back and forth in your house. Today was the first day I left my apartment. Took my dog for a short walk and dragged my teenage son with me just in case I got weak. Best of luck to you in your recovery.

Sleeved 11/1: down 26lbs since pre-op liquid diet 10/16!! Excited about that!! Today is day 1 of purée foods. Had one scrambled egg for bfast but ate only about half of it.

This last week was rough with the lack of energy but I know that was due to having nothing in me but liquids. I feel energized already today so I am putting on my sneakers and going outside and walking! Have a great day, folks!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
