has anyone had bad issues with burping a lot after gastric bypass? I burp constantly now and it's really bad after I eat. I take nexium 40mg twice a day and gas x. I chew thoroughly and eat slowly, and stop drinking 30 min before eating and don't resume until 30 min after. My doc says he hasn't heard of it and my co-worker complains about it constantly, but I really can't help it. Any advice?

Your stomach is much smaller after surgery so you don’t have as big a reservoir for the air you breathe on a daily basis. Since you swallow air when eating, breathing, drinking, talking and initially after surgery, your body needs to adjust. Burping is one way your body gets rid of excess air or gas from your stomach. This is self-limiting and will get better as you adjust to your new digestive system. Stay away from straws and carbonation since these can increase the amount of air in the pouch.

I did. It was bad, bad from both directions up until a little less than two weeks. I can have good days and bad days. Mostly air/belching. I think I’m causing that by eating too fast.

Had it bad in the first month, but it goes away. I worried too, when I was having this problem, and googled extensively! What I learned was it passes with time. How far out from surgery are you?

One note tho - I also burp after meals now if I have eaten too much! It can be a sign to reduce portion size, too.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
