4.5 year update w/pics and im running the boston marathon!

Recommended Posts

its now been 4.5 years since I was sleeved. my high weight was 323 lbs. my goal weight was low 180's. I did reach goal weight but over the years I realized that my desired goal weight was too low for me. now for the last 2 years ive steadily maintained a weight in the mid 190's and that appears to be where im supposed to be and im happy with that weight. today 10/1/17 I weight 195 lbs. I exercise 3-4 times a week and my choice of exercise is running. I will also be running the 2018 boston marathon and im so excited about being able to run this historic race! im running it for the jimmy v foundation for cancer research and ive committed to raising $6000 which is no easy task. if any of you have ever been affected by this terrible illness feel free to click the link after this post and make a 100% tax deductible donation to the jimmy v foundation for cancer research. every dollar donated goes to research. you will be supporting my run and a cause that affects everyone as everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer. as far as my eating, I still have to be very mindful of what I put in my mouth. I can eat much more today than I could 2 years ago but still no where near what I could eat before having the surgery. hope everyone on their journey is doing well and feel free to ask any questions. im also attaching my before pic and a few current pics taken last week. have a great day! heres my donation link for anyone willing to support this wonderful cause: http://jimmyv.convio.net/site/TR/Endurance/General?px=1409952&pg=personal&fr_id=1370

You look great! Congratulations!! It's been 4 weeks I had my surgery and I am kind of sad, do to my diet discomfort. I try very hard to eat what is indicated but it's been hard and almost everything gets stuck in esófagos at least that's the sensation I get. Could you indicate me some other food options and is this discomfort will be for ever?

hi nena1204. let me assure you that what youre experiencing is very normal for someone just 4 weeks out. it takes time to get used to reintroducing food again to your body but trust me with time it will get back to feeling normal. right now your insides are still healing and will do so for months. but it will get better as each month passes. as far as eating, if youre feeling that stuck feeling you have to make sure your food is very fine with no large pieces. also you can try sticking to softer foods or possibly adding some liquid to them to soften them up. 4 weeks out is still very very new and your body is going through so many changes. hang in there and give it time. trust me it definitely gets better and will be so worth it in the end. wishing you the best...

Congrats NY Lou! Just what I needed to see when I'm at the 3 week mark. It's so difficult just trying to get in my Protein and fluids right now. This helps remind me it will pass and be so worth it.

Christine330 even now 4.5 years later I always put my Protein first. I make sure to get all my protein in every day as that will be important for the rest of your life. my Snacks are all high protein snacks like greek yogurt, a cheese stick or for a treat some cottage cheese w/pineapple. I still make Protein Shakes and I still count my liquids every day to make sure im drinking enough. after 4.5 years of doing this it becomes second nature. good luck to you and to everyone else reading this thread.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
