Did/does anyone vape pre-sleeve? I vape (nicotine lol) very very occasionally and they've only asked so far about smoking which I don't. I passed my pulmonary tests. My friend says the surgeon may ask about vaping closer to surg (11/27) and I just am curious if it's the nicotine they care about or any pulmonary consequences? Thanks!! :)

I vape now but they will test you for nicotine they don't care how you are getting it into your system chew, smoke, vape so if you really want the surgery you have to stop and they tell you not to do it after either. I use my vape for medicinal but waiting post op several months but they do not like it at all. This is suppose to help us all rid ourselves of addictions. I was hard core strick per op and I have lost 150lbs then lightened up on my self after the 100 pound mark but its like playing chicken and it is still dancing with the addiction demons. But if you want the surgery make up your mind that you are and anything that stands in your way kick its ass! Then post you will figure out what you want as your life changes from the weight loss, emotionally, physically anyway. Good luck!

I vaped all through my preop period. It never came up and I never thought about mentioning it. After my pre op testing, they found very high levels of Nic in my system....which honestly, I didn't even know they check for that.

My CRNP asked about my nic levels and I explained that I used to smoke but quit and started vaping instead (I quit ciggys in 2014). She said she'd let the surgeon know and told me to stop right away...but I was already only a week or two pre op. she explained that smoking is a deal breaker for surgery, but given the circumstances she would talk to the Dr. I did vape right up until the day of surgery. I noticed no ill effects from it, but I didn't start vaping again until several weeks after the surgery. After surgery, it just didn't seem appealing, which was a surprise. I thought I would be the guy sneaking vape hits in the bathroom....but it just wasn't appealing at all. Looking back, that would have been a great opportunity to completely give it up, but since I felt like I gave up so much already....I went back. I make my own juice, so I still put a very small amt of nic in (less than 2 percent). So, it is what it is, I guess.

Disclaimer- this was only my experience....I'm not encouraging anything negative, addictive, or unhealthy. Do what's best for you and your health.

Good luck on your journey!!!

I vaped prior to my surgery. They stressed the importance of quitting due to the nicotine causing leaks and preventing healing. It was hard at first but I an thankful that I am starting this new journey smoke free as well!
Good luck!

I smoke and knowing I have to quit is freaking me out! Vaping made my gums bleed... bad. My doctor said that he wants no nicotine in my system the week prior to surgery and after. Eeeeek!

You can do It! I am 4 days post op and my lungs still ache. I cannot imagine how bad it would feel if i was still smoking. Plus the thought of a leak scares the crap out of me.

I vaped 0%nicotine up to surgery. Didn't vape again until I left the hospital about 30 hours afterwards. Found I didn't really want to in the recovery period. Have been vaping again since. No one asked if I vaped and I never thought of it.

Thanks Oompa Lumpa I hadn't thought of switching to 0; I'm vaping 3 mg nicotine at 17 watts right now and only occasionally so why not go down to 0?! I feel like I'll be giving up so much why give up the vape if you don't have to - if it is the nicotine that's the harmful aspect of it.

be careful, they told me the 0% would still show up on the test. Not sure if they were lying so i would quit, but I would hate for you to have to get rescheduled.

Thank you DisplacedYankee!! Good to know. I think the general consensus points to don't risk it!!! And I sure as heck am not letting anything stand in my way here, I'll just stop all vaping activities before since it's such an occasional habit anyway. I have >100 to lose and would prefer to start living my life in the healthiest way - and if vaping has to go so be it!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
