It's a long process at least 6 MOS, you won't have surgery for 8 mos at the least. You have to get a ton of clearance from other doctors and have to lose 5% of your body weight. I'm scheduled for surgery on Oct 5th and it took me a year too get thru the process. Hopefully will all be worth it in the end. Good luck

It typically depends on what your insurance requirements are. Six months of working with a dietician and office visits seems to be the norm. Some insurance companies require less. You may be required to lose a certain amount of weight before hand. There is usually a psyche evaluation required. An ultrasound, and ekg, an egd. All kinds of stuff. It will be a lengthy process. Hope this helps.

I have to do 6 months med supervised weight loss, Psych eval, cardiac clearance, NUT appt, exercise class, support group and and endoscopy b4 my insurance and surgeon will approve me. I should be done middle of november or so then surgery 2017...

From what I have read, every surgeon and insurance is different, so when you go to the Dr for your first appt they will tell you everything you have to do b4 surgery.

Congratulations on taking the first step

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
