Update March 2017 Sleever's! Lets hear your update stories!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering how everyone is doing? If you were sleeved in March like I was, you are going on 6 Months post op soon!!! It is amazing how time flies. I am reaching out and creating a new topic to see how far everyone has come alone. I want to hear about everyone's success stories. I was sleeved 03/06/2017 So I am 5 months and 3 weeks post op. I have lost 63 lbs so far. I started out weight in at 290 lbs, I currently weight 226.8 lbs. I am a slow loser, but I am coming to terms with that. I still struggle and fight the good fight daily not to go back into bad habits, or to beat myself up to much. I still struggle with my eating disorder, but am learning daily to get it in check. Binge eating is very different with VSG... still able to do it, but just different. Its a constant struggle. I am really interested in hearing everyone's real journey not the sugar coated " oh, I don't eat sweets, I don't eat sugar, I stick to Protein all the time, blah blah blah."-- not knocking anyone who can actually do that on a daily, weekly basis... I don't have that restraint. I still eat carbs, just try to keep the carbs very low. I have my weekly snicker mini's at the end of the week-- not as a reward, just bc I want it. I don't exercise like I should, though my job offers this new program, I can go to any gym in the area, which is lovely and will help me a lot. I can do Zumba, and body workouts and yoga, I pre planned my workout's. I got a calendar to keep track and I am going to really start focusing on workouts.. things are getting wobbly... I am proud of how far I have come in 5 months, and I am going to fight to get to where I have to go. I am just curious how everyone else's real journey is going. Please if you wouldn't mind letting me know your stories and let me know what you're struggling with the most of this journey.

I struggle taking my Vitamins, exercise, not going back to bad habits-- like sweets and fighting my binge eating disorder which seems to get stronger daily...

Thanks for the support, and if you shared your real journey, that you for that too. Keep in touch.

Ali

Hey Ali!

I had my sleeve done March 22nd My highest weight this year was 364 and now I'm down to 283! Honestly I break the rules too for instance I don't dilute my sweet drinks like juice or punch. I'll drink coffee with Creamers, stuff like that. Honestly I haven't been working out in awhile. Last month was tough I wasn't eating at all and throwing up a lot. I also wasn't loyal with my Vitamins which made end up back to where I had my surgery. I was low in Potassium and Magnesium so I had to get what they call "Banana Juice" in my arms and pump it in my veins. Besides all that I'm glad I've lost a total of 81 pounds! I still have a long ways to go but I'm enjoying it as the days go by! Good luck with your Journey! Never give up!

Everyone is doing so well!

I also have trouble getting motivated to exercise. I WANT to, and It feels good to move.. I just have some sort of mental block about it. I'm actually afraid to leave the house (phone) long enough to go out and enjoy myself in the gym!

It's an old anxiety, stemming from having a lot of sick people around me. Just in the last month, there has been:

A total knee replacement with hospitalization and nursing home rehab for my MIL

A stroke + necrotic esophagitis in my FIL.. with hospitalization and he'll be going to rehab soon,

A kid almost breaking his finger in the car door.. another Dr.s visit plus x-rays

A daughter that has missed 3 days of school due to nondescript illness,

A husband with an extremely stressful/important inspection at work,

A different daughter with a torn ligament in her ankle... probably looking at surgery

All these people live with me, so everyone of their issues impacts me in some way. I'm the "manager".

----

The thing is, I'm ok.. don't feel the need to turn to food, thank goodness.. but I'm also immobilized and can't do the things that I should be doing (like mowing the lawn, painting the living room, etc. etc.). I'm either running around doing what HAS to be done, or I'm waiting by the phone for the next call....

On a good note, I've lost 91lbs! (305 down to 214).

I was sleeved on 3/28 and am down 78. I can honestly say I feel better than I have in years. My weight loss has slowed considerably, I have lost 2 lbs in the past months. My goal is to loose another 20 lbs. But I feel fantastic and am proud. I think that is the first time in my life I can say that I am proud of my body....

I have drastically changed what I eat and some of those changes are for life others til I make it to 1 year. juice, soda, fancy coffee drinks are a thing of the past. I don't miss them any more. At times I struggle with how much of what I can eat. I am counting my Protein and strive for at least 60 gms of protein a day. Carbs and calories, on the other hand, i am not sure what amount is right. I'd love to know what others are eating 8+ months out.

My biggest success has been taking my son to Universal Orlando and being able to keep up with his speed. I was able to go on all the rides and even went to a Water park and walked around in a bathing suit all day. It was pure bliss.

so grateful

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
