Low carb Vs. Calorie counting?

Recommended Posts

Which do you prefer and see the most weight loss with, Low Carb or Counting Calories? My MD wants me to stick to an 800-1000 calorie diet after my procedure. I want to do whatever I'll get the best results with. Which do you prefer and why??

We seem to have 3 vocal camps running around. Low carb Keto. Low carb non keto. Vegetarian. Everyone counts calories.

Except me. Whole food plant based advocate here. 👋🏽 No calorie counting and definitely no low carb-ing, and still losing weight and getting healthier. 😊

Lol. I do both actually. Some dishes vegan, some vegetarian. Mostly vegan though. In fact, I did have an egg this morning! Lol. Say what!?!? But, still don't count. Hey, lost four pounds since last week too. Not too shabby, eh?

That is awesome!!! I lost 6.4 pounds this week, I almost didn't believe it. I was 180.4 on 8/7 and 174 this morning. I think my body is liking this plant based diet.

I am still trying to track, but it is a little more complicated with all of the ingredients in some of the dishes I am making.

I was just going to post this question to the forum: If a person consumes only 950-1000 calories a day (I know some of you don't count calories) over a period of eight months, doesn't the body start to readjust to the lower calories and stop losing weight? My fear is that I've cut my calories back so far that over time I'll start gaining weight if I eat anything over 1000 calories. What a nightmare that would be. I'll be fat and starved all at once.

I believe this can happen. That is why I have been making sure to increase my calories a little as I go along. At 3 months post-op I think I am doing pretty good hitting 1000. I am going to attempt to be at 1200 by 6 months and then see where I am at. I think I will be at my goal weight by 6 months and then I will have to tackle maintenance.

For some reason I thought it would take me longer to reach goal.

I don't count anything but Protein grams and fluids. I didn't experience any stalls until I hit 9 1/2 months - primarily I think because I had problems with bulging disks in my neck that caused a pinched nerve and I had to stop exercising.

I eat 4 mini-meals a day consisting of protein first, then a multi-grain (2 a day) or fruit serving (2 a day), then veggies. One meal is protein & veggies only. At 10 1/2 months I probably eat somewhere between 1200 - 1400 calories daily. I'm very happy with my progress so far.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
