Alternatives to Protein Shake in Week 1 Post-op?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks!

I just had my surgery on Monday and have mostly been recovering pretty well (with some on and off acid-reflux, but the meds seem to be fixing that). My question is: in my stage 1 'clear liquids + 3 Protein shakes' diet, do you think it would be ok to switch a couple of my Protein Shakes for Protein Powder mixed with non-fat, sugar free Jello pudding?

I did 3 weeks pre-op on protein shakes and already I am so incredibly sick of them (but I loooved protein pudding).

What do you think? other ideas?

Thanks!

Check with your nutritionist (NUT) to be sure. My NUT said 80 grams of Protein and 64 oz or more of Water a day. Tough to do with nausea, pain, and lack of appetite. My point is, along your recovery journey, check with your medical provider first. They have lots of experience and tons of sound ideas for you to try. They can encourage you and put your mind at ease. I like this forum for shared experiences but caution people from providing medical or diet advice.
PS i am with you on being sick of Protein Shakes. Gag!

Yes, my nutritionist recommended the s/f pudding, s/f jello, cream of wheat , and low fat creams ( mushroom, chicken) your choice.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
